The prince of Tyrus (Ezekiel 28:1-10) is an earthly king. According to Jocephus he was Ithobalus II. The king of Tyrus spoken of in Ezekiel 28:11-19 is Lucifer who was the spiritual king. These verses must be understood to have a double meaning. Both earthly and supernatural kings are referred to and addressed in this prophecy. Statements that could refer to the human being must be understood as concerning him; and those that could not be spoken of a man must be recognized as referring to the supernatural being. For example: No man could be an "anointed cherub" (verse 14) |
