1 | understanding of these verses? | Jeremiah | Vintage68 | 216337
Hi John Thanks for the input, but Gill's exposition is not a clarification of the verses, his words are nothing more than a recounting of the same items contained in the verses. On to the ESV Notes. These notes are good as a brief history of the events in Israel of the time, and of the future for Israel (Judah). They come down to a rewording of the same events, ie a more vivid description of the Jeremaic process. But in actuality it says the same as (NASB) Sorry but neither one quite clarify. I thought it was more obvious as to what I was seeing. Jer.23:2,3 2.) Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel concerning the shepherds who are tending My people: ("You have scattered My flock and driven them away,) and have not attended to them; behold, I am about to (D)attend to you for the (E)evil of your deeds," declares the LORD. 3.) ("Then I Myself will (F)gather the remnant of My flock out of all the countries where I have driven them) and bring them back to their pasture, and they will be fruitful and multiply. Vintage68 |

Well then obviously, Vintage, these verses need little explaining, since the NASB, and ESV notes saw no reason to add very much. Also, most commentators add little more then a brief history and just a little more vivid description of the events. So they are obviously so simple and clear, a child could understand them. Help us out will you please? Just what is it you need to have explained to you Vintage? Or do you perhaps posses some sage wisdom you would like to share with us?

In that case, read Gill's commentary again. ("You have scattered My flock and driven them away,) This refers to the pastors, priests and prophets or governors of Israel that are charged with scattering and driving away the Lord's flock, as cited in Gill's commentary. ("Then I Myself will gather the remnant of My flock out of all the countries where I have driven them) This refers to the gracious promises to the Lord's people, revealing God's sovereignty in their return from captivity, and, particularly with the future promise of the Messiah, as also cited by Gill. You may want to read more in depth commentaries at, http://www.ewordtoday.com/comments/ -it has many of the classic historically renowned commentators, Matthew Henry, Gill, Calvin, Wesley, etc. and, its pretty easy to navigate. Hi John First God says: vs.2 ("You" have driven them away,) Then God says: vs.3 ("I will gather the remnant out of where "I" have driven them) Why is He angry with the pastors, if He was the one that did the driving? Vintage68 |

6 | understanding of these verses? | Jeremiah | stjohn | 216344
This takes an understanding of God's sovereignty. Though He is ultimately in charge of and orchestrates all things, this does not take away the culpability of the evil deeds of the pastors. It, we, everything, all events, throughout history, and future, is all part of God's plan. Though we can make bad choices that deserve His being "angry" (if you please) with us, He is still going to have things come out the way He wants them. He is sovereign in ALL things, that is why and how He can say, He is doing the driving, though the priests/pastors etc. are the one's that are ultimately guilty of sining against God and causing the problem.

You may want to try looking past your own understanding or presuppositions, and ask God for His. Without the help of the Holy Spirit, you'll look till the cows come home, but you'll find nothing.
