This is for morant61, it is so refreshing to finally have someone on SBF that understands biblical interpretation. The whole book of Ecclesiastes is narrative. Not once does the phrase the word of the Lord came unto Solomon, or thus saith the Lord. W,ith that said now concerning Vals question about lying I personally feel there is a distinct difference in lying to cover an injustice and bearing false witness against thy neighbor. God judges the intent of the heart. After all Love covers a multitude of sin. Walking in Love is more important than some self rightous act of piety. | ||||||

Hi, sog... The proper genre classification of Ecclesiastes is wisdom literature. The kind of distinction you are trying to make regarding kinds of lying is called, in ethics, teleological. It looks to justify a behavior by the end it achieves. Niccolo Machiavelli uniquely influenced this line of thinking in the 15th century. In Christian orthodoxy, ethical teleology has been pretty well eschewed, because it contravenes the nature and character of holiness and righteousness. In more modern venues, this kind of thinking has been embraced by liberal Christians, and has become foundational to postmodern thinking.
