1 | Earth abideth for ever? | Ecclesiastes | jlpangilinan | 75663
Ec 1:4 ΒΆ One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. King Solomon, stated the "earth abideth for ever", but Christ said, "heaven and earth shall pass away" Mt 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. How do you explain the contradiction of those verse. God bless, |

In the "Defenders Study Bible" Henry Morris has added some great footnotes. He says of Ecclesiates 1:4 that: "This is one of many biblical affirmations that God created the earth to last forever. Like our mortal bodies, it must be made new again, but once renewed, it will abide forever." 2 Peter 3:10 says: "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works therin shall be burned up." So, is this a contradiction? No. Morris adds: "The 'day of the Lord' will be terminated at the end of the millennium with the long-awaiting renovation of the old earth by fire. The earth will not be annihilated, any more than it was annihilated at the time of the Flood, but will be completely changed and purified, made new, as it were." In Christ, SRP |

3 | Earth will abide for ever? | Ecclesiastes | jlpangilinan | 75674
Did solomon has the ideas of ressurection both the earth and the mankind so you can tell that the 'earth" that he mention is the earth that "the new earth". Heb 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. They not having received the promises about ressurection, moses in his five books did not mention that when the people of israel disobeyed they will go to hell nor they go to heaven if they disobey.' The promise to them is the promise land (canaan) and no the new earth. Ge 17:8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. So I am very precise that the "earth" being mentioned by solomon is not the "new earth" but he is referring to this "earth" that we are still belong. God bless, |

4 | Earth will abide for ever? | Ecclesiastes | srprimeaux | 75675
We need to look at Scripture in light of other Scripture. The same Holy Spirit that inspired the Great Preacher also inspired Peter in what they wrote. We can't play 'Scripture Hopscotch' with the Word of Almighty God. When we look at Scripture in light of other Scripture, confusion no longer abounds and we can see what God is telling us. This earth will not pass away -- per se -- it will be purified by fire and made new. In Christ, SRP |

SRP, As a believer, I can easily accept that Bible will not contradict each other, how about if someone that very young in the scriptures will ask us about that verse, is that a valid explaination, that we should believe because it was written. Tell me if the reason that I brought up is not valid that solomon has no idea of ressurection yet nor has the idea that this world will be vanish and God will replace it with a "new heaven and new earth" I will post that question again, to get some other point, thanks very much for your time. 6 | Earth will abide for ever? | Ecclesiastes | Morant61 | 75698
Greetings Johnny! One way that I would address this question is to point out the unique character of Eccesiastes and Proverbs. Both of these works contain general statements which can be pressed too far if not careful. For instance, Ecc. 1:6 says, "The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course." Are we to conclude that the wind only blows to the south or north? Doesn't the wind ever blow east or west? Solomon is making general statements of perception, mostly from a very fatalistic mindset. Ecc. 1:3-11 are simply making one basic point - nothing changes. Everything stays the same. To force this passage to mean that the earth will never end would be a mistake. I hope this helps! Tim, Yes it helps. Your answers is very similar to what our brothers explain in our local telivision, he also said that solomon really want to emphasize that the generations will come and goes, but the earth remain "for ever" or at least remain lasts over the generations. I am very thankful to received comment such as what you gave, I am more confident that I can give the same explaination on this verse if someone ask me or trying to attack the Bible using that verses. Knowing that I get the same explainations coming from different people and even from different country. In fairness to JWitnessess, that very verse are one of thier main reason not to believe that this earth that we have now will going to pass. See you in the forum! God bless Johnny |
