I believe that it is as simple as different authors' method of estimates. The verses are meant for description, not for a blueprint. For example; perhaps the actual number was 2,613. The author of 1 Kings, perhaps being more conservative, said that it could hold 2,000 baths. The author of 2 Chron may have simply estimated and said it could hold 3,000. This morning, on an NPR news story about the squatters in South Africa, the report said that 20,000 people had settled there. This afternoon, another reporter on the same network, said that 15,000 people had settled there. Who is right? They both are close enough for their intended purpose. |

Good observation, Jastemo! The MacArthur NKJV Study Bible states, "A bath equaled almost 6 gal. First Kings 7:26 reads 2,000 baths. This discrepancy has been reconciled by accounting here not only for the water the basin held, but also the water source that was necessary to keep it flowing as a fountain." Good study! Nolan |
