I believe your reference is 1 Kings 6:18. In my very humble opinion, a better translation of the word "gourd" might be egg. The passage does appear to be talking about a shape or design. Its possible that it is just an architectural form common at the time. Alternatively, perhaps these designs refer to fruitfulness. We do not have any scriptural reason to assume that they had more significance than this. We must be careful not to over spiritualize things. Scripture is used to interpret scripture. Since this is the only reference to these gourd-shaped-carvings, perhaps they are just gourd-shaped-carvings. | ||||||
