Response................. Understand that David did not write all the psalms, but there are so many which he authored that it's common to refer to the book of Psalms as David's book. The psalms are written because of various things going on in the writer's life (sins, victories, despondency, worship). That's why people enjoy reading Psalms. There seems to be something for whatever you are going through or thinking on. Many of the psalms have an explanation just preceding it explaining the background. Psalm 51 was written as a result of David's repentance when confronted with his sin with Bathsheba (the sin is found in 2 Samuel 11; the confrontation in 2 Samuel 12). Steve |
