Hello rcchef2001, Are you refering to Job 38:3? Did your Pastor give you any verses? God does do this but only in a sense - ie, to teach Job why HE is about to say what follows. Have you read Job and if so and you disagree, maybe you could ask your Pastor for clarification. Maybe it was just a misunderstanding. You can ask a prayer in Jesus and believe and receive, so long as it is in Jesus. May you find peace and understanding in your query, deb |

3 | is it acceptable to make demands of god? | Job | rcchef2001 | 58928 | ||
My pastor used this verse to convey the idea that God wants us to make demands on him in prayer. Job 38:3 (NIV) Brace yourself like a man; I(god) will question(some translations say "demand of") you, and you(Job)shall answer me. God repeats this in Job 40:7 an Job again refers to this when he is answering God. I beleive he took it out of context. The bible says in Mark 11:24 Whatsoever you ask for in prayer, and beleive that you have received it, it shall be yours. I believe this and have experienced god's hand in my life.In my concordance, the word "ask" could be translated as demand. It could be that I just have a problem with the word "demand" when it comes to God. God took the better part of three chapters in Job, demandng(not asking)Job who do you think you are Job, I am God! I will make demands of you and you will answer me! I do not often question my Pastor. He is a wonderful man of God and I love him and would never want to hurt him. I also did not want to appear foolish when I approched him for clarification. Thank you for your input God will bless you. |

Hello rcchef2001, Your post was so nicely written. Have another look over Job. Maybe, if you can make some time to read the whole book you may find it makes more sense to you. My Bible might read a little differently from yours, but if it is ok with you, let me just quote some verses: 38:3 "Now gird up your loins like a man, And I will ask you, and you instruct Me!" 40:7 "Now gird up your loins like a man, And I will ask you, and you instruct Me." These are GOD's words to Job. Now see how Job replies: 42:4 "Hear, now, and I will speak; I will ask You, and You instruct me." What lesson did Job learn - that which you already know in your heart. Don't be afraid to talk to your Pastor. He will see your good intention. I sincerely hope this helps and that you enjoy the book and story of Job. May grace be with you always, deb |
