Greetings Valstmartin1980, Whenever considering the date that a book of the Bible has been written, it is always benefitial to consider two dates: the date of the setting, and the date of the inspired writer who composed the book. A good guess for the setting of Job appears to be during the later part of the second millennium B.C. (1500-1000). Several clues point to this time setting: "the raiding of Sabean (1:15) and Chaldean (1:17) tribes fits the 2nd millennium, as does the mention of the qesitah, a "piece of money," in 42:11 (see Genesis 33:19; Joshua 24:32)." (1) The author of Job was an Israelite, but mentions nothing of Israelite history. In any case, like the book of Genesis, the date of the book of Job's composition may be much later than the events recorded therein. It is possible that either Moses or Solomon wrote Job. "These cultural/historical features found in the book appear to place the events chronologically at a time probably after Babel (Gen. 11:1-9) but before or contemporaneous with Abraham (Gen. 11:27ff.)."
