1 | David's sin forgiven when? | 2 Sam 12:13 | Baptistbred | 64235
In studying the doctrine of God's imputation of righteousness to those who believe , I consulted Adam Clarke's Commentary on 2 Samuel 12:13. However, Clarkes' comments on this verse seem to contradict the apostle Paul's reference to Ps. 32: 1,2 in Romans 4:6,7? It seems to me that Paul is trying to prove that one is forgiven by faith , by using David's confession and immediate forgiveness of his sin with Bathsheba.( Paul refers to Ps. 32, and Ps. 32 refers to 2 Sam. 12:13) Yet, Clarke says that David's sin was NOT forgiven when he said "I have sinned against the Lord" and Nathan replied, " The Lord hath also put away thy sin." I always thought that David's confession In 2 Sam. 12:13 was when he was forgiven? Kept by Him, Shawn Lam. 3:22-23 |

2 | David's sin forgiven when? | 2 Sam 12:13 | Searcher56 | 64236
Scripture ... 2 Sam 12:7-20 (vs 13); Psa 32 (vv 1, 5) 51 (vv 8, 12); Mat 5:12; 1 Jhn 1:8-2:2 ... Shawn, greetings. Always check out what people say (write) to see if it is so (Acts 17:11). "Experts" are not always correct. When does Clarke say David's sin was forgiven? Some say that our sins were forgiven on the cross ... others say until we ask, He isn't going to forgive. ... But, we still have to ask for forgiveness. Read the passages above. Searcher |

Here are Clarke's comments from his commentary on 2 Sam.12:13. Many have supposed that David’s sin was now actually pardoned, but this is perfectly erroneous; David, as an adulterer, was condemned to death by the law of God; and he had according to that law passed sentence of death upon himself. God alone, whose law that was could revoke that sentence, or dispense with its execution; therefore Nathan, who had charged the guilt home upon his conscience, is authorized to give him the assurance that he should not die a temporal death for it: |
