I realize this is not a science forum but my question is about how scientist date objects because when they date something correctly back to Bible times than why can it not be trusted when it gives an object millions of years | ||||||

1way The problem here is there is nothing to compare against or calibrate against. We don’t have anything that can be known to be a million years old to test their calibration with. Every time science makes a dogmatic statement of age something comes along and proves them wrong. For instance when they were designing the Lunar Lander back in 70’s, they announced the moon was 6 billion years old and calculated it would have many feet of dust on it. Therefore they built the Lander with huge pads that would float on the dust rather than sink in. They built the Lunar Rover to have tires that would also float over the dust. The even built dust deflectors on the Lander so on takeoff all the dust would be blown away from the capsule. Well we all know what they found, a few inches of dust. If you plug the actual amount of dust in their original calculation that they used to determined that for 6 billions years there would be many feet, you find the dust depth amounted to about 6 thousands years of accumulation. This fits with our only known standard the Bible. As I said the only known standard is the Bible and figuring back as close as we can we can pretty much say Adam and Eve were on this earth about 6 thousand years ago. That then becomes an established standard. If a calculation, measurement, what ever produces an age that equals or fits into this range we can call it okay. Just as the oldest known human corpse ever found is known to be Iceman with a dated age of around 5000 years ago. However if a dating falls outside such as a bone fragment found to be a million years old we have to say it is questionable. If somehow we had something we could say for certain was 1 million years old and could test it and found it to be 1 million years old then we could say we have test that produces exact results. However since we don’t have a standard to measure against we can never say our dating of anything older than 6 thousand years old is accurate. We just don’t know. EdB |
