1 | Skeletons of evolution? False? | Genesis | Hank | 126829
Hi, Yuke! Well, the gap theory, like all theories, means that somebody did a heap of speculating, doesn't it? Not many orthodox exegetes hold with the gap for good reason. It calls for more speculation and interpolation than they are willing to sign on to. ...... If the Hebrew word clearly meant "became" and not "was," doesn't it strike you as slightly odd that such scholarly, godly, responsible translation teams -- experts all, and tops in their field -- as those who gave us the King James, the New King James, the English Standard Version, and the New American Standard Bible would have translated Genesis 1:2 "and the earth became..."? Only the gap theorists insist on using "became" instead of "was" and why, do you suppose, they do? The obvious answer is so that it will fit their theory. That's the problem with theorists and their theories. If Scripture doesn't fit the theory, don't change the theory, change Scripture. --Hank

Understood.... I just can't believe the Bible makes mistakes. Isaiah 45:18 says that God did not create the world tohu. Genesis 1:2 says that the world "was" tohu. If He did not create it without form and void, yet it was without form and void, then it must be that it became without form and void. Either that or Genesis 1:2 or Isaiah 45:18 is wrong. I will not believe the Bible is wrong. Yuke |
