Genesis 29:30- 30:24- I challenge all of you to study Old testament books which I am sure you all do. I had to preach on this passage titled "Leah's Multiplication" It was such an awesome study. Leah is not love like Rachel is and it makes her up set. Just like if we had a parent who loved one child more than another it would make us upset. God saw the problem and blessed Leah with a kid and not just one 4. She thinks now Jacob has to love me I gave him 4 kids and Rachel gave him none. Rachel beginning in verse 1 of chapter 30 envies Leah in other words is Jealous. And it angers Jacob when she says "Give me a child or I will die" She is so full of envy and it causes her to go get her hand maid Bilah and tells Jacob have kids with this hand maid so I finally can give you children. She does not do it God's way which Sarah did same thing with Abraham. So Jacob marries and has 2 kids. Then Leah is now Jealous and she gives her hand maid to Jacob to bewed and then 2 more kids come about. So right now we got more branches then the Fedral Goverment having kids from 3 different sources. And Leah's son has Mandrakes which we believe were plants that you eat that might help the cause of having a baby and it was just simple food. Rachel saw Leah's son with them and says give me the mandrakes and Leah replied "you took my husband shall you also take my sons mandrakes" Rachel told her that inreturn for them Leah could lie with Jacob and so a deal is made. Jacob lies with her and Leah has 3 more kids. Then God finally blesses Rachel and she has a son Joseph. You know it is like a talk show where they determined who the husband belongs to and what baby is his. But this is also important on learning how being jealous can cause more problems than you want. You might wonder what can happen if I am jealous well you just might end up with 12 kids :) no maybe not but it will tear you and the one your jealous with apart. So that is todays lession. Any comments (as long as not too mean ) you can reply I beseech you to do so more is better. | ||||||

Great answer. Let me add this: Gen.29:31 - "The Lord saw that Leah was unloved and He opened her womb;but Rachel was barren." The Hebrew for "unloved" is s'nu-ah which actually means "hated" and that perhaps is more accurate here. Did Jacob hate Leah or love her less that he loved Rachel? Rachel was beautiful and it was love at first sight for Jacob while "Leah had weak eyes" (Gen.29:17) a term for "not pretty". Perhaps Leah actually hated herself for having tricked Jacob into marrying her. Knowing what we know about humans, we can suspect that Jacob did indeed hate Leah because, by reminding him of the fraudulent circumstances of their wedding, she reminded him of his most shameful memory, the time he deceived his father, Isaac. We often hate people for confronting us with what we like least about ourselves. Also notice how God once again shows mercy when no one else would. In Gen.30:1, Rachel says "Give me children or I shall die. Ironically, she died in the act of giving birth to a 2nd child. Literally, the only difference between a wife and a concubine in Jacob's day was that no bride-price (Hebrew: mohar) is paid to the former. Over time, the social status between the two often disappeared. Yet, today, in Jewish worship, only Leah and Rachel are remembered as Jewish matriarchs. An important prayer recalls the names of Abraham, Sara, Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob, Leah and Rachel but not the names of Bilhah and Zilpah. Young women today should keep that in mind - Get That Ring! |
