1 | when did it rain for the first time? | Genesis | nosajrob | 14059 | ||
I know not what you are saying "PRESUPPOSITIONS of science". I did not mention science. In fact I have never read a scientific arguement concerning this issue. But then add what you will. I know nothing of why it should be entered other than if this unfounded fact is that important to you. What I do know is that there is no proof that there was no rain before Noah's day. I again submit that it was not rain that was the answer God gave to man's failure in Noahs day. It was judgment by rain. That in fact is true wheather it rained before or not. You are correct it is the absence of rain that is mentioned. Scripture does not, I repete does not say that it never rained until the flood. That is surely an assuption. Again the important thing is that God has in the past judged sin, and he will continue to do so. There is coming a judgment by fire. Remember, fire is a good thing. However, to be burned by it is not desirable. To be judged by it is a reality. |

Well, it sounds like you have the sin and judgment part down, but we were discussing rain. It is not mentioned, except for its absence, in Gen. 2. Since there is no evidence in Gen. 2 to believe that there is rain present, the "assumption" that there is rain is "read into" the text. This is because there is a presupposition that rain has always existed. This presupposition comes from our supposedly scientific knowledge of what the world must have been like. I know you did not mention science. That is why I called it your presupposition. I believe that if a person were not presupposing "scienctific" answers for this sort of thing, they would not also say with certainty that Gen. 2 says there was rain -- arguing from silence -- when it says no such thing at all. |

It is your problem to deal with. I have better things to do. Keep your assumption if you please. Bye |

My problem? You raised the challenge to me, remember? Thank you for refuting me so directly and distinctly. Good luck with your "better things." |

STOP IT!! The bible is not to be argued over. Whether it rained or not is SOoo minor although i'ts nice that people look to defend the questions that some skeptics might have. I personally think you need to get a grip of the TRUTH before you start entering a discussion board and obviously arguing. About the 2nd time hearing you two, I lost sight of the truth somehow and it made a stressful day even more so. In case you haven't noticed there are a whole lot of differnt beliefs in this world which unfortunately make for WARS. Knock it off!!! |

I'm sorry to hear that you find these posts upsetting. It would be interesting to know if you had anything of substance to say about this topic, other than, "please don't argue about minor things." This IS a forum for discussing all aspects of the Bible. I would hope that you, too, see ALL of the Bible as important and worthy of discussion -- (rather than relegating some parts of it to being of minor importance). -- bjanko |
