1 | Creation days | Genesis | DTS | 238937 | ||
Gen 1:1-19. This has to do with the literal 24 hour creation days in Genesis. A number of things were created and three times God said, and there was evening and there was morning a first day , a second day , a third day. But God didn't create the Sun , Moon and Stars until verse 16. So if there were no Sun for planet earth to revolve around then there was no 24 hour day until the creation on day 4 ( Gen 1:19). P.S. God is free to do it any way He wants , I just wondered if there were any ideas on this. Thanks |

Hi DTS, You ask an excellent question and are right to wonder about these seeming contradictions. All of these verses must be (and are) in harmony. For this purpose, you must let the bible interpret the bible. The first thing to understand is that “in the beginning” is not on the first day. Notice the earth existed before God said, “Let there be light.” That light was the start of the first day and the start of this age, which will end when Christ returns. (John 1: 1-3) God and the Word (Jesus) were “in the beginning” and all things were made through Jesus. If “in the beginning” is the same as the first day of creation, then NOTHING had been created prior to that day. Yet, when the cornerstone of the earth was laid, “the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy.” (Job 38:7) Were the “morning stars” and “all the sons of God” created that same day, but before the earth? Now notice that the earth is formless and void. Was this the way God created it, that the angels rejoiced and shouted for joy? “In the beginning” is that time before God said “let there be light” and stretches back into eternity. It was a period of time when God created the heavens (universe) and the planet earth and the sun, moon and the stars. This is why we have light from stars that are millions of light years away. Why would God say, “Let there be light” if the sun, moon and stars already existed? Because God had made a “thick darkness its (the earth’s) swaddling band.” (Job 38: 9) The term “swaddling band” implies that there was light outside of this band, otherwise it wouldn’t be a band. When God said, “Let there be light” this thick darkness cleared enough to allow in the light from the sun. On the 4th day God cleared the atmosphere again, where the sun, moon and stars could be seen. Verse 16 merely expands on how God was providing the light by the objects created “in the beginning.” Hoth |
