61 Is coveting with a pure heart Godly? James 4:3 The Disciple 30020
  Indy,
(if i may call you that- one of my favorite movie heros),

I enjoyed your explanation and your box of love. That is quite a LOVELY way to share the LOVE you have. I will try and remember your words for my 2 girls...whom I LOVE like you do yours.

You are correct about our 'desire' and 'covet' having different meanings.
Actually, that isnt the question being posed. Allow me to state it better or ask the question more clearly.

Should we be purposefully looking for His Blessings FOR THE SAKE of getting them?

In other words, finding formulae or principals in His word to help us recieve from Him?

Are we to supposed to do good works now - for blessings later? (or is this something we should do anyway, because we are Christian)

Jesus helps us to understand what our Motives should be in Matthew 6.
But before we read Matt 6, Jesus is already teaching us in chapter 5.

Notice the many areas of life He overshadows to let us see where our hearts should be.

Motive is the heart of the issue, isnt it?

If we desire HIS GIFTS solely for the sake of reaping rewards now or later, is this not coveting?
I am not trying to say we shouldnt desire His blessings. What I am trying to say is, we shouldnt desire to reap - BECAUSE we have sown.
That to me is a heart that covets.
The Lord will Bless us BECAUSE we are His children.

Matt 6:33, helps us to see where our hearts should be.

...help us Lord not to convolute your story...

62 Is coveting with a pure heart Godly? James 4:3 The Disciple 30012
  Yes - agreed!

What can we do for such possibilities ?

Or what should we do ?

Are we to go on letting our bretheren live in discontent?

Or shall we try to help them understand what Paul tries to teach us in Phillipians 4:10-20?
Surely he wasnt just speaking of mammon..? (see vs 17)
Frankly, its disheartening to see our brothers believing a message of gain now and not so much later.

63 Is coveting with a pure heart Godly? James 4:3 The Disciple 29899
  Nolan,
Thanks for the timely response.

I guess the question I pose can be seen as an oxymoron??

I am of the ilk that our motives shouldnt be for gain of self in any way shape or form.

Yet, a question still remains.

How is it teachers/pastors follow a principal to give to get to give. Believing that what is sown now will be reaped later on?
And that is the motive for the sowing...to reap later on so as to sow again.

Quite a turnstile, ya think??

64 Why did David choose five stones? John 3:16 The Disciple 29828
  Interesting Indeed...

I didnt intend to mean that what David was speaking was "casual insults".
If anything, he may have been truly undone by the "uncircumsised Philistine" and the way he blasphemed David's God. Making David truly incensed and thinking in the harshest terms he knew how, at his young age.

And I feel a need to entertain your presumption of me, that David had a lack of faith. Hence, the need for 5 stones instead of one.

Could David's pouch have been empty? Could he have considered gathering more stones in case other memebers of the Philistine Army decided to not honor the vow made by Goliath about his defeat meaning all is over?

But I need to ask about the rest of the family of Goliath.
If the covenant issue was what David was preparing for, why did he not pick up stones for the other four "born" to the giant of Gath (inference of Goliath?) who fell to the hands of David and his servants?

These 4 born of the giant in Gath were called Rephaim. (Gen14:5; 15:20; 2Sam5:18,22; 23:13; 1Chron11:15; 14:9; Isa 17:5)

Since this is not the brothers but the offspring of the giant, should not David had prepared his sling bag with stones for them?

I am not trying to make light with my questions, I truly am interested in the direction of this dialogue.
I agree that when the Word of God is not clear on some things, we have liberty to deduce from the Scripture what could have been.

But I hope not to be 'dogmatic' on an issue that is silent in the Word.

...help me Lord not to convolute the story...

65 Why did David choose five stones? John 3:16 The Disciple 29765
  Kalos,
Thank you for your kindness and its good to see your posts...you've gotten about havent you? LOL

Maybe I do know about Osama and those like him, but that is us and we lovlingly let people know who and what we know. Yet, David made remarks that shows to me, either he knew the man and cursed his name with such words of disdain...or he didnt know him and spoke of him as a God-hater because he didnt know his name. Heck, like we saw in vs25...the Army Men of Israel spoke of him as "this man"....I am sure they had just as much disdain as any other.

  *SHALOM* my brothers..!!

Galatians 3:7,
(NASB)"Therefore be sure that (a)it is those who are of the faith who are (b)sons of Abraham."
a)Rom4:16
b)Luke 19:9; Gal6:16

(NKJV)"Therefore know that only (a)those who are of faith are sons of Abraham."
a)John 8:39

Galatians 3:16
(NASB)"Now the promises were spoken (a)to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to his seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "(b)And to your seed," that is, Christ."
a)Luke 1:55; Rom4:13,16,9:4
b)Acts 3:25

(NKJV)"Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to his seeds." as of many, but as of (a)one.
(b)"And to your Seed," who is (c)Christ."
a)Gen22:18
b)Gen12:3,7 13:15; 24:7
c)1Cor12:12

68 Why did David choose five stones? John 3:16 The Disciple 29753
Mind if I ask a question??

How did David know Goliath had 4 brothers?
I ask because in 1Sam17:26, David asks the men of Israel, "...who is this uncircumsised Philistine?
Now the form of the question can lead one to believe that he had disdain for this Giant because of the way he cussed out the army of Israel and thier God. BUT, if he did know this Philistine then he would know(have expected)him to say such things about God and Israel.

In vs 36, again David addresses Goliath in a tense that denotes he doesnt know the name of him.

We may even consider the fact that Philistines and Israelites always spoke of each other in this manner. Which then may conclude that David was using the term, "uncircumsised Philistine.." more as an ugliness under his breath rather than an addressing of a person.

Yet, in vs 25, the men of Israel addressed this "uncircumsised Philistine as "this man".
And these were trained men of the Army. They didnt show disdain for this Philistine.
Why would a shepherd boy do such a thing?

Is it because David has such a love for God and did not like the way his God was cursed?

Could be.
or Maybe not?

Yes, we do learn later on in the Tanak that Goliath had 4 brothers and offspring that were killed by Davids army. But that doesnt mean he knew of them before he faced off with Goliath on that fateful day.

I too have heard preachers, teachers and friends say David picked up 5 stones for Goliath and his 4 brothers. But, I dont see how the conclusion was made.
If anyone knows where in Scripture the answer is I would truly appreciate it and I will then say that is the reason for his picking up 5 stones.

...Lord dont let me convolute the story...

69 Can angels have human babies? Gen 6:4 The Disciple 29312
  Greetings Minister,
I notice that there haveint been many posts in the most recent time.

I would like to ask one question...
are you given into the book of Enoch to the point that we have to be wary of the "watchers"?

Grigori is quite profound I would think

70 Can angels have human babies? Gen 6:4 The Disciple 29311
  Hello BRETHEREN,
It would seem, that since Cain's familyline and Seth's familyline were the only familyline's known to man, most of us would consider the line of Seth and Cain to be the obvious rendering for this "offspring".
Some would argue that in the NT it says Jesus said angels are not given into marriage.
Or does this mean they arent given into being allowed to marry?
Both views offer good insight.

Looking at the Nephilim from the point of view that they are "offspring" of a supernatural nature considering their unnatural stature could verily be substantiated by Scripture if we look into the "angels" or "sons of God" from the context they were written. And not from the bias we have from one verse.

We find angels being held in chains until they are released by Jesus. They are held down because they ONCE left thier "familiar surroundings" or "abode" or "created use of influence" for the use of decieiving mankind.

What kind of haneous crime can an angel do to be put into lockdown from God.?

We know 1/3 of the Host were cast down with Lucifer... would it be presumptious of us to think some decided to leave their sphere of familiarity to wreck havoc on mankind?

Deception has been Lucifers tools since the beginning. Why would this be any less deceptive than other ways he used Us?

....lets not convolute the story.....

71 Can angels have human babies? Gen 6:4 The Disciple 29307
  Hello Servant7,
Seems there are few posts here since last YEAR...and no one else wants to elaborate anymore about the 'fallen ones'...

May i suggest your incline yourself on a study of "tatartarus".....i believe you will find it in the NT....found once...for the word...HELL if i remember right. You see, a nephi cousin of mine is trying to persuade the "line of seth" followers to check into this persuasion to help locate who the "sons of god" were. Were they those who left thier "abode" or were they those from "mankind"? ONLY THE TRUTH IS FOUND IN THE WORD....but you know that already and are ready to discuss this topic at length. Even with me...ehehehehe

Godspeed to you,

D

74 Are the gifts of the spirit for today? 1 Cor 13:8 The Disciple 28778
: Another thought crossed my mind as I was reading 1Corinthian 13.

vs 12, "For NOW we see in a mirror, dimly, but THEN face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I am known."

See what in a mirror?
Most likely this is the Word of God, that which was spoken to them.

What does it mean by dimly?
Probably that they didnt understand all about the Gospel of Jesus, since the NT wasnt written, but in the process of being written. With the lives of the writers, etc.

But "then face to face". ??
If context is is about the use of the spiritual gifts. We saw in vs 10, "..then that which is in part will be done away." We know the gifts are IN PART.
What is face to face all about then?
For me, this is the moment when we are with our LORD JESUS, the only thing that IS PERFECT, COMPLETE.

"NOW I know in part, but THEN I shall know as I am known."
Was this a prophetic reference by Paul that he will be known in the New Testament?
Did he have that knowledge of his destiny?
That is, if the canon is what that which is perfect.
But what is face to face all about?
If it isnt with our LORD than what is he referring?

...Lord dont let me convolute your story...

76 Are the gifts of the spirit for today? 1 Cor 13:8 The Disciple 28774
  Blessings !!
I just read your post about the gifts not being in operation today.
My first question is, how do we edify the church without them?
Without these gifts being utilized how do we come to a unity of faith?
Is there a Unity today of faith?
Is there a fullgrown man today?

You stated because the law is perfect (sighting James) the gifts arent needed.
1Corinthinas says, "...when that which is perfect has come."
I am presuming that you believe the canonical scripture as being "that which is perfect".
My next question then is what about the 7 thunders mentioned in Revelation?
These havent been written about, so how can the scriptures be perfect(complete)?

Forgive me for not reading all you have posted, you may have tried to answer these questions in your post. I will read it when I have more time.
I just had to reply right away with what I had seen in a quick glance at your post.

77 Do holy people have to speak in tongues? 1 Cor 12:30 The Disciple 28773
  ezekiel,
what a wonderful testimony you have. Praise the LORD and all HIS grace.
IF you have a chance, in the search part of this forum, type in Acts 2:6 as the search area. Read all the posts given by all the writers and readers. I truly hope you will be blessed by all of our words of affirmation, encouragement, love and understanding.

The Word of God is so very important for our lives. John 15:7 says, "If You abide in ME and my WORDS abide IN YOU, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you."

IF we are truly abiding in HIM as a branch of HIS true vine, then we wont let our experiences be the only thing that holds us to HIM. Let us keep praising HIM for these things and continue to use them to show others (not of HIM) how HE has saved, healed, delivered us from ourselves. We really dont need to use our experiences to prove to our brothers we are saved or have unfailing faith.
The Holy Spirit gives us gifts as HE wills for one reason. In 1 Corinthians 12,13,14 we learn why and what for.
All gifts are for ONE specific reason and that is to EDIFY THE CHURCH.
Let us all continue in this way and ALSO continue in abiding in Jesus and and WORDS.

May HE Bless you continually,

**SHALOM**

79 Define "praying in the Holy Spirit" Acts 2:6 The Disciple 28569
  Nolan,
I know you consider it to be legitimate today.

I do also enjoy John MacArthur as a teacher of the Word. He has WONDERFUL insight and wisdom.
Thank you for the web addy...i have it.

But, I do believe he doesnt think the gifts of prophecy, tongues, healings is still prevelant.

Hope I am wrong.

I know another one of my favorite teachers believes they are gone. Chuck Swindoll...he and a few others from Dallas Seminary have the same beliefs.
