|42||God's or ours||Matt 28:18||Asis||101282|
We have been born again by beliving God. Our spirit, our inner man, has been reborn by the Holy Spirit. Our spirit has been made perfect, complete again . . . RE generation. The Spirit of God and our spirit are in union. They work as one. When God tells us to do something it is through this union that the action is relayed. Our spirit communicates with our mind will and emotions, our soul. Our soul moves our body to talk, lay hands, pray, etc., complete the action. If we walk by the power of our soul rather than the power of our spirit (Holy Spirit power) then whose action is it? God's or ours?

What does this say? What is our position in regards to sin? I believe what God has said through the apostle Paul. If He said it. It must be true. I know that I cannot do what He wants of my own or it is my own (and I could get the glory) so I can only do this united with Christ, IN CHRIST. The words God uses to express my condition are words in the aorist tense and the past tense. He also says He has made me. . . I choose to believe Him and I proceed on that belief. Do I stay in Him 24/7 not yet. When I am not in Him do I fall short Yes.
1 John 1:5 through 1 John 1:10 (NASB)
5This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
Whose report will you believe. The condition of the believer is as Paul writes or not. We are sanctified by the work of the Cross or not. It is by His effort all is done or it is not. ALL of God’s promises are yes and amen in Jesus.

Rom. 4:22 through Rom. 4:25 (NASB)
22Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS. 23Now not for his sake only was it written that it was credited to him, 24but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.
Rom. 5:1 through Rom. 5:5 (NASB)
1Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Rom. 5:17 through Rom. 5:18 (NASB)
17For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
18So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men.
Rom. 5:19 through Rom. 5:21 (NASB)
19For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous. 20The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Believers Are Dead to Sin, Alive to God
1What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? 3Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7for he who has died is freed from sin.
8Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. 10For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
15What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! 16Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness? 17But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, 18and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.
20For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death. 22But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life. 23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This is what I believe.
Num. 23:19 (NASB)
19 “God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent;
Has He said, and will He not do it?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
Prov. 3:5 through Prov. 3:12 (TMWB)
Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart;
don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all.
Run to GOD! Run from evil!
Your body will glow with health,
your very bones will vibrate with life!
Honor GOD with everything you own;
give him the first and the best.
Your barns will burst,
your wine vats will brim over.
But don’t, dear friend, resent GOD’s discipline;
don’t sulk under his loving correction.
It’s the child he loves that GOD corrects;
a father’s delight is behind all this.
Prov. 4:20 through Prov. 4:27 (NASB)
20 My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your sight;
Keep them in the midst of your heart.
22 For they are life to those who find them
And health to all their body.
23 Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.
24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth
And put devious speech far from you.
25 Let your eyes look directly ahead
And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.
26 Watch the path of your feet
And all your ways will be established.
27 Do not turn to the right nor to the left;
Turn your foot from evil.
John 15:4 through John 15:5 (NASB)
4“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
John 15:10 (NASB)
10“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
John 15:14 through John 15:17 (NASB)
14“You are My friends if you do what I command you. 15“No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. 16“You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. 17“This I command you, that you love one another.
The Message: New Testament
Rom. 3:3 through Rom. 3:5 (TMNT)
First, there’s the matter of being put in charge of writing down and caring for God’s revelation, these Holy Scriptures. So, what if, in the course of doing that, some of those Jews abandoned their post? God didn’t abandon them. Do you think their faithlessness cancels out his faithfulness? Not on your life! Depend on it: God keeps his word even when the whole world is lying through its teeth. Scripture says the same:
“Your words stand fast and true;
Rejection doesn’t faze you.”
But if our wrongdoing only underlines and confirms God’s rightdoing, shouldn’t we be commended for helping out? Since our bad words don’t even make a dent in his good words, isn’t it wrong of God to back us to the wall and hold us to our word? These questions come up. The answer to such questions is no, a most emphatic No! How else would things ever get straightened out if God didn’t do the straightening?
Rom. 3:21 through Rom. 3:24 (NASB)
21But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
|46||Spirit or spirit? John 6:63||Prov 5:21||Asis||101175|
|Ray I stand with my capitalization of the word spirit. The Spirit of God , the Holy Spirit quickens our spirit. Then we can discern, understand spiritual things. Everything I wrote after Jesus says is what Jesus says, my paraphrase. Have you thought about the book I mentioned Word Study on the Holy Spirit by Bullinger. My friend from IL sent me my copy. It is interesting.
I will read the string and join in thank you for asking.
|47||Spirit or spirit? John 6:63||Prov 5:21||Asis||101016|
We indeed need a spiritual understanding to realize that everything that comes our way is used to bring us to believe God. If I "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine."Proverbs 3:5-10
[KJV] then I don't think it is failure God has in mind for us/me. We should not be trying to figure out what God is doing in our lives, but rather letting God do what He wants. I don't want to know God in my humanness rather I want to know him in my spirit man, my inner man, be a spiritual man. As I know Him this way then I can let go and let God. When I let God He gives us the eternal perspective.
|48||Spirit or spirit? John 6:63||Prov 5:21||Asis||100988|
John 6:63 must be taken in context with John 6:52-62. But first let us look at the the other verses on your post.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. [KJV]
I used to think that this verse meant that anything that I did I was supposed to say, “it wasn’t me it was God. He did it not me.” Then God revealed that it was my life that was to acknowledge Him. “All my ways” was my life. When all I do reveals God by my life that all my goings and doings would be directed by Him. When that is the case willo any of my goings and doings fail?
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings. [KJV]
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent. In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble. The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so. The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness. [KJV]
I think these two go together. God and His word are one. Therfore what is said about one is also talking about the other.
Heb. 4:12 through Heb. 4:13 (NASB)
12For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.
GOD KNOWS ALL. We can hide nothing from Him. In fact it is a little absurd that we would think that we can keep God from knowing something we think or have done. We cannot keep the condition of our heart from God. He knows our spirit (character). Out of the abundance of our heart the mouth speaks. That is how we know anothers heart.
For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them. [KJV]
God is in everything. There is nothing that is done that He is not in. I didn’t say causes, I said in. Until man knows God he really doesn’t know anything. All that comes from man is temporal. That which is temporal with fade away and is hence not real. What we know from God and of God is eternal and will never fade away. That is what is real. If we don’t know this we know nothing.
The real is the spiritual. Jesus says that until we are able to unite with him (eat his flesh and drink his blood; a hebrew figure of speech) we will not understand. The Spirit of God gives life. What I say cannot be understood by the mental, by the worldly. Your character will not profit you until you are united with me and your spirit is given life. Then you will understand spiritual things.
God makes the wise things of the world foolishness. His stuff is much better than our stuff. Get out of God’s way your mind and will is keeping Him from completing, perfecting His work in you.
I hope this finds you well

What makes you think I am any different. I am just like you. The point is that God has given us a new life. He has given all we need to live that life. Yet we choose to look at ourselves as helpless to live that life. Salvation is not just forgiveness of sins. It is that and deliverence from sin. Hebrews 9:14
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? [KJV]
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. [KJV]
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. [KJV]
We have not allowed Christ's blood to purge our consience of sin. "We're sinners save by grace." I was a sinner BUT NOW I am a new creation saved by grace. It is by that grace (God's involvement in my life with all His power and His might even though I don't desreve it) that I am justified (made just as if sin never was) through faith in Jesus Christ. I am IN CHRIST by God's doing. My mind is being renewed by God through His word and the testings of my faith into the image of His Son. God's promises are a reality in Christ. This is for now not for when I get to heaven. God has equipped us to live the life He has called us to live. Walk by the spirit/Spirit. We are the ones who get in the way.

|Is the problem then just what does God say? Romans 6:11
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. [KJV]
The words are pretty clear. Reckon is an accounting term meaning to credit your account. I think we need an excuse for all the times we disobey the word of God. We find it very hard that God has made a way for us to walk in His righteousness. Didn't He say be holy because I am holy. I gather that He is telling us that in Christ we are holy. Not of our selves, not with our thinking but by the Spirit we have been created anew. We used to be in Adam but now we are in Christ becasue we believe. My body isn't perfected yet but I don't walk by the body I walk by the spirit (New Nature). My body is constantly warring with my new nature and sometimes I am silly enough to listen to listen to it. But God chastizes me, corrects me, to repentence and restores me because I still believe. I live in the new nature not the old. The life God wants us to live is not found in heaven but here on earth so He can continue doing His work. That life is IN HIM. I know that I am not perfect (complete) of my own. When I am in Him it is Him who is complete I am united with Him in His completeness. That is the profession of my faith. Am I that off base? (Hank I had to end this with a question. Hope you don't mind.)
Another thought. Paul tells us that the power of sin is over our body and that that body died with Christ. He says that wioth his mind he wants to follow the law but his body is overcome by the power of sin. So withthe mind he desires to follow unto righteousness but with the body sin. Who can save me from this body of sin?

|Hello Brother Tim
Are you saying that the only time we as believer sin is when we choose to. The Old man is dead but we can resurrect him by choosing to go back to our old ways or we can bury him and reckon ourselves dead to sin. It is for freedom He set us free. We can live in freedom or as slaves to sin. The choice is ours.

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. [KJV]
How does this verse pertain to what you are saying. If my old man, my sinful nature, my flesh is already crucified with Christ . . . I must be confused. Why do I have to say no to something that is all ready dead.

Isn't what you are describing here temptation. God told you to quit smoking. Trust me, He says. You were not strong enough to resist the temptation. He told you to trust Him you didn't. The cigs tasted bad (God changed you not the cigs) you could fight through and continue in disobedience or trust Him. Your choice. You see a pretty woman, temptation again. You can choose what God has said and your experience holds to be true (that no temptation will come upon you that is greater than you can handle)or you can have the next thought and choose to sin. The choice is yours. Whose slave are you?

|God 's word is true. He is not a man that He would lie, He does not repent, if He said it it is true, if He said He would do it it is done. Right? Why then is it so hard to believe that what the word says about us is reality. We are crucified with Christ. Our old man was crucified with Christ. We have been raise with Christ in newness of life. We are a new creation. Jesus is the last adam and the second man. We are to reckon (account) ourselves dead to sin. We are sons and daughters of God, joint heirs with Christ. We have the same power in us that raised Christ from the grave. We can do all things through Christ which strengthens us. We have been given ALL things that pertain to life and godliness. We have been placed IN CHRIST by God. He transfered us from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His Son. By the promises given to us we might (shall) be partakers of the divine nature. Jesus has destroyed Him who had power over death. Resist the devil and he will flee. There is no condemnation to those who are IN CHRIST. We are the righteousness of God. We don't have guilt and shame any more. We have been made white as snow. There is no temptation that comes upon us that is unique to us, greater than we can handle and that an escape is made available to us. We are washed, we are sanctified, we are justified in the name of Jesus and the Spirit of God.
There is more and more that is true about the condition of the believer yet we don't believe? Doesn't the truth make you free? Didn't the Son make you free? If we are saved why do we go out of our way to not be. Can't we accept this free gift?

|He wants to do the work through you. [same idea different way of saying it]. If I do it then I can boast, "Look what I have done for God." If he does it through me who can I boast in? Do it by demonstration of the Holy Spirit.
When Jesus baptizes us in the Holy Spirit we have an experience. Mine was being overcome by the power of God and the next day speaking with other tongues. Tongues is one way which God uses to give evidence of Jesus baptizm with the Holy Spirit but the evidence is not limited to tongues. When your spirit get energized by the Holy Spirit you know it. This baptism of which we speak is for service. God promised that He would give us Power from on High. He turned 11 disciples into apostles on the day of Pentecost.
What is your hearts desire? Have you had an experience of the cross. Do you die to self daily? When I am not functioning in Him as He desires I get convicted. Which leads to repentence. I know I am in Him because He says I am in Him. I know I am a son of God and His righteousness just because I believe Him. This is how I know He said it. (Numbers 23:19; Romans 3:4) I have had an experience of Him. His promises have become a reality in my life. Proverbs 3:5,6; Proverbs 4:20,21.
There are no steps to do just trusting to be.(Yoda)

The word pnuema is translated as spirit or Spirit. I have come across a work by E.W. Bullinger called Word study of the Holy Spirit. He is much more the Greek scholar than I could ever hope to be. There are 14 usages of the word pnuema:
3 The Holy Spirit
4 The operation of the Holy Spirit
5 The new nature
8 Metonymy - That which is invisible as opposed to the flesh
9 Synldoche - put for the whole (pnuema put for ones self
10 Adverbial - Implying essence
11 Angels or spirit beings
12 Demons or evil spirits
13 The ressurection body
14 Pnuema Hagion
Now as to John 3:6 Bullinger agrees with you. The the first word Spirit is the Holy Spirit and should be capitalized. My error. The pnuema is given the meaning Spirit or spirit at what seems to be the whim of the translator. That which is of the Holy Spirit is of the new nature and that which is of the new nature is of the Holy Spirit. Either one works.
Our new nature is what we become when we are born again. I know I didn't give myself a new nature so it must have been God. If He chooses to use the Holy Spirit to do that it is OK by me. I only care that I have been made new. The old has passed away and all the new things come from God.
I think you would find Bullinger's book very intersting. He also has another called the Companion Bible. Both can be bought from Christian Book Distributers.
Here is another one for you.
16But I say, walk by the Spirit(new nature?), and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit(new nature?), and the Spirit(new nature?) against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18But if you are led by the Spirit(new nature?), you are not under the Law.
How can my flesh be so strong as to win a fight against the Holy Spirit of God, the power that raised Christ from the dead. But my new nature is in conflict with the flesh and my soul, my mind, will and emotions, can't make up its mind who to listen to. New nature or body? Since my new nature is filled with the things of God and is direct communion with the Holy Spirit my spirit does what the Holy Spirit wants while my flesh says no way! Interesting. Translators are not infallible. I would rather have a expert in Greek who is an atheist translate the Bible than one who is shaded by his beliefs. No bias.
1 John 4:2 try this. "By this you know the spirit(angels) of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit(demons) that does not confess Jesus is not from God;..."

|Jesus the man filled with the Holy Spirit and power.
God does not want you to do the work. He wants you to be HIS instrument of righteousness. An instrument does not play itself. God is the musician we are the instruments. When we are baptized with the Holy Spirit we have the Spirit of God which knows the mind of God living inside of us (1 Cor 2:16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.) Jesus did nothing of Himself. John 12:49 “For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50“I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”
And again John 14:9
9Jesus said* to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.
Are we better than Jesus to do what we think God wants done or to do it our way by our might or is Jesus our model for Kingdom living. To do and be in Him 24/7. 1 Cor. 1:30.
Read Galatians 3 and meditate on what God says for us to DO.

Our responsiblility is to be obedient and surrender all (die to self). God wants to work through us. Anything that we do of our own is of the flesh and God desires us to walk, live, by the Spirit. That which is born of flesh is flesh and that which is born of spirit is spirit. Our responsibility is to walk by the spirit (our new nature).
