21 The worse reason to get married? 1 Cor 7:9 billk 56614
Estelle you've add some good perspective and context to Paul's words but I still think getting married to avoid sexual sin is a terrible reason to get married....and we're not talking theory here...many Christians get marry too fast and too young for this reason and/or because of guilt ... I have no solutions, just an obversation
22 The worse reason to get married? 1 Cor 7:9 billk 56603
  1cor7-9
"But if they do not have self-control, let them marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion".

Isn't this jumping from the frying pan into the fire ???
23 Jesus: ona donkey or chariot? John billk 56597
.....not bad for someone born in a barn

I think some of his (and the Holy Sprit's) greatest victories with me have been slow and silent, you don't even realize what's happening or even when it was completed.... it's so gradual.

But you wake up one day and it occurs to you... it did happen... your heart has changed!!! ... that is SWEET victory...praise the lord
24 Can sinnners inherit the kingdom of God? 1 Cor 6:9 billk 56590
  Jubilee and New Creature
Thanks for taking the time to answer I haven’t sin the particular sins listed below in 1COR6 in a long time (well, except covetness). But there’s still no doubt in my mind that I am a loathsome habitual sinner. Habitually, I put my self interests before the interests of God and the interest of others…. I break God’s two GREATEST commandments on an daily (if not an hourly) basis and I have yet to meet a human who doesn’t….. that why I need Jesus and his loving suffering and death: so I, a loathsome habitual sinner, can inherit the kingdom of God.

1cor6
know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God
25 Jesus: ona donkey or chariot? John billk 56579
I have I ask the question because on one hand I keep a list of miracles, small and large, that God has performed in my life... and I am amazed

On the other hand, on nights when I have a hard time sleeping due to worries, I picture Jesus, in those last days, entering Jerusalem on that donkey. For some odd reason I find this humble image vastly reassuring of how Jesus is fulfilling his many astounding( not-so-humble) promises for my life if I follow him... that brings me to peaceful, deep sleep.....without fail

Your answer is extraordinarily comprehensive, insightful and more importantly...balanced. You have made me sin; I covet your wisdom, clear thinking and writing.
26 Jesus: ona donkey or chariot? Not Specified billk 56536
The Jews expected a Glorious Messiah to lead them to immediate victory over the Roman oppressors (but in fact got something much much different).

Do many evangelist and evangelicals repeat the error.... creating the same exaggerated expectations... the victorious Jesus.

But in fact doesn't Jesus come into our lives on a donkey rather than a victory chariot???

28 Can sinnners inherit the kingdom of God? 1 Cor 6:9 billk 56525
Grreat verses... but are we not all loathsome sinners who "deliberately, knowingly, and habitually practices sin". I think that's the point of most of Matthew 5 .... and because of that that we need absolute undeserved Grace.
29 Can sinnners inherit the kingdom of God? 1 Cor 6:9 billk 56468
  Hank and Kalos
good advice...well worth taking to our hearts and considering. But in a sense aren't we "regenerated" immediately when we believe that Jesus died for our sins? Doesn't Paul teach that?

But in another sense, the work of the Holy Sprit to actually change our sinful lives takes much, much longer. It seems to me many times the Holy Sprit works at a slow pace relative to the quick fix expectations that our culture believe's in ... and many times we go thru a long painful rebirth process of dying to the natural man.... which can take years. Are we not saved in the meantime?

Is a sin like homosexuality or adultery any diffferent from sins of Pride?

30 Can sinnners inherit the kingdom of God? 1 Cor 6:9 billk 56377
If we are confident of our faith in Jesus but are in sin(s), such as adultery, drunkeness or unforgiveness/bitterness ...but we are sorry for these sins and ask for forgiveness... we have made progress, but they still occur in spite of our efforts...Are we still saved?

31 Our role vs. God's role Rom 5:4 billk 56369
As a relatively new Christian I stll get confused in our role vs. God's role in 1)our salvation 2) our growth in Jesus...particularly the latter.

Here Paul seems to me to be talking about character issues (character is mostly our efforts, right?) at the very HEART of his "free gift" emphasis in Romans. The placement is what I find fascinating.

Any insights on what Paul is trying to tell us. Is there a nuance/tension being brought out here???
32 2ond most important book in your life? Bible general Archive 1 billk 51539
Funny, you mentioned a prayer jornal, I was thinking of keeping a journal/list of the virtual mirales God has done for me when I REALLY do trust him and depend on him... but I always tell myself...I won't forget.... I won't get complacent again .... I can't even imagine drifting back to "me".... but... I inevitably do.

Then, once again, I dig myself in a deep hole... and return back to God... and the cycle begins again.

Sounds like the Old Testament in a nutshell.
33 Humility in OUR BiIble Interpetations Not Specified billk 51521
This question is begging to be asked

Should we be humble in OUR personal interpetations of the Scripture? (and OUR perceived dose of the Holy Sprit's guidance)

Since we are still human... Isn't it a FACT that we ALL interpet some portions of the scriptures right and some wrong? Don't all denominationa and persons miss the mark in their interpetations.... some are wrong in some beliefs and right in others... and vice versa

Doesn't God and (and logic!) tell us we should be humble?

36 Can a person ever loose his salvation? Hebrews billk 51365
Hmmm, I always saw the one lost sheep (and coin) and the prodigal son as originally being saved (sercured) then lost... God seemed more like God that way.
37 What is Jesus's point? Perfectionism? Matt 5:48 billk 51332
  What is Jesus's point? Perfectionism?

Since the context of the verse(prior commands, etc) are law oriented not faith/grace oriented.... isn't this Old Testament(sons of Haggar/slavery) teaching ?

If we literally tried to follow this command (and not the sprit of the entire new convenant) would we "miss the mark" ?

38 degrees of heaven? Matt 5:19 billk 51280
Should this be verse seen as confirmation that such people will got to heaven but that they will be ranked lowly. It seems odd that heaven will have different levels of satisfaction and dissatisfaction.
