101 3 levels of christianity 2 Tim 2:15 BradK 229049
  Hello bnabirye,

Welcome to the forum. If I may ask, have you read the book of Ephesians? It's only six chapters in length.

102 im being told to practice rom4:17b Rom 4:17 BradK 229020
  Hello RWC,

Welcome to the Forum. Might I ask who's telling you to "practice" Rom. 4:17? Be careful about taking things out of their context- or ignoring it altogether. The verse must be read in context of the entire chapter- Abraham's justification by faith.

The verse reads, "...even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist." (NASB) Read carefully, we note that it is GOD who give life and it is GOD who calls into being- nothing said about us. This is not a prescription for us as believers to "practice". Faith is not a formula nor a power that we excercise. It is rooted in the object of the Lord Jesus Christ!

103 Can the devil read your thoughts or mind 2 Tim 2:15 BradK 229009
  Hello Michael,

Satan is not Ominscient and there is nothing from scripture that would give any indication he can read our thoughts or minds!

104 God inhabits the praise of His saints Ps 22:3 BradK 228937
  Hello richperk,

The reference you're loking for can be found in Pslam 22:3, "Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel." (NASB)

I hope this helps,

105 Why should I believe Jesus lived? Heb 11:6 BradK 228935
  Hello Christinme,

I would offer that the best place to start is to know your bible. There is also ample historical evidence to support that Jesus actually lived- a fact attested to by many extra-biblical writers. An excellent resource would be "Evidence That Demands a Verdict", by Josh McDowell. Regardless, faith still plays an important part in believing this. As Heb. 11:6 states, "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him." (NASB)

106 covenant of Exodus 19;10,11 2 Tim 2:15 BradK 228839
  Hello 361203,

Pardon my asking, but have you read Exodus 19:10-21? I should think that if there are 4 covenants listed in these chapters (sic), you'd find them by reading the passage!

  Hello aulich6,

I'm not certain how specific an answer you want? The best help I can offer is to consult a (NASB) Concordance to see all uses of those words. That should help.

From your current wording, I'm not sure what your question is? Can you re-state to make better sense?

Thanks,

110 God's name Is 40:25 BradK 228675
  Hi Julia,

Here are a few things I'd offer.

One, my main point in stating that God's name is not Jehovah was to counter the erroneous claim by the JW's that this is somehow THE name of God. It's not! Elohim is used for God some 2,570 times in the KJV. The most frequently used word for God is 'Lord' in the KJV and 'Jehovah' in the ASV.

Second, James White in his book, "The Forgotten Trinity" says (speaking about the Triune nature of God), "The problem is of course, God is completely unique. He is God, and there is no other. He is totally unlike anything else, and as He frequently reminds us, 'to whom then will you liken me?'"

Third, God has many names within scripture. He is first called Elohim in Genesis, in fact some 32 times in the first chapter! In the OT, He is also called: Jehovah, Adonai, El-Shaddai, Jehovah-jireh, Jehovah-rophe, Jehovah-nissi, Jehovah-M'Kaddesh, Jehovah-shalom, Jehovah-tsidkenu, Jehovah-rohi, Jehovah-shammah. So, which name is the name of God?

Nathan Stone in his book, "Names of God" notes that translators have always had difficulty in finding a suitable word for the Hebrew word we translate God. He continues, "Now a name in the OT was often an indication of a person's character or of some peculiar quality. But what one name could be adequate to God's greatness? after all, as one writer declares, a name imposes some limitation. It means that an object or person is this and not that, is here and not there. And if the Heaven of heavens cannot contain God, how can a name describe Him?" (By the way, I'd highly recommend this book for you.)

I think this point is well-deserving of our contemplation. God is infinite and beyond our complete comprehension, so how can Jehovah alone be HIS name? This is one aspect where the Watchtower is clearly deficient in their understanding of God.

As Stone continues, "Even so, the OT contains a number of names and compound names for God which reveal Him in some aspect of His character and dealings with mankind."

I hope this helps.

111 names of two spies sent by joshua in jer Josh 2:1 BradK 228668
  Hello armel,

Scripture doesn't tell us their names. Joshua 2:1 simply says, "Then Joshua the son of Nun sent two men as spies secretly from Shittim,..." (NASB)

112 New World Translation 2 Cor 4:2 BradK 228656
  Hello Julia,

I'm afraid Church History and the history of Translation is not on the JW's side! One may ask, what was happening in the Church for some 1900 years before the Watchtower Organization came along?

The New World Translation may be better termed, "The New World Perversion". It's not a translation but a rather bad paraphrase deceitfully done to do exactly what you stated- "JW's published their own bible to fit their doctrine".

The Watchtower Organization did nothing at all to "restore" the bible by putting God's name back in! God's name is not Jehovah. It is one of His names for sure but THE name, no. Again, says who and on what basis? Your husband is simply parroting what he's been taught. He's merely the pot calling the kettle black in his accusations.

You'd only need to study the history of bible translation- or even English Bible translation to see how far off the mark the JW's are.

Keep in mind, every respected and accepted translation was or has been dome by a commitee of scholars- who's names are available. From the KJV to the ESV. These men hold Doctorates and are highly qualified in the area of original languages! Check out the NASB translation and google the list of translators. There's a reason why they make this public. Would you go to a doctor who didn't have a diploma from a recognized medical school- let alone never attended or completed one?

On the other hand, the Watchtower Organization falsely holds to altruism as to the reason they don't (and won't) provide a list of the "translators" of the NWT! I find this not only lacking credibility but it sure raises suspicions in my mind. I ask, what are you trying to hide? It's an excuse. I did a little research on my own a few years back. It's difficult to find the list as they keep in from record on purpose. Again, one should ask, what are they trying to hide? No other recognized translation obfuscates their list of translators! The best that can be determined is that Fredrick Franz and a couple of his cronies did most of the work. Franz had only a couple of years of study in Classical greek- hardly a qualification to undertake such an enormous task. This does not make him even remotely a qualified expert in biblical languages! With any other translation, he'd have been laughed off before he even stepped up to the plate.

So, take some time to ponder these points. Then, query your husband and ask him to provide you the list of translators for the NWT! Would you believe (or he honestly say) we had no true, qualified translations until the 1950's when the NWT was published? This is a completely unreasonable tenet, is it not?

Pray for the veil to be lifted from his eyes that he may come to know the true God and eternal life (1 John 5:20)

113 I BEEN SEEING A SPIRIT LIKE FACE Heb 9:27 BradK 228349
  Hello angelbaby,

In answer to your question: No. Heb. 9:27 cleary says, " And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment," (NASB)

The Bible also teaches nothing about ghosts, spirits or other apparitions!

114 what does 1 cor 7:12-14 say? 1 Cor 7:12 BradK 228298
  Hello bob2cool,

1 Cor 7:12 "But to the rest I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he must not divorce her."

The tense here of "has" is present, active, so I would take this to mean he is already- at present- married to his wife. He's not seeking someone unmarried who's an unbeliever in order to marry her. So, I think the overiding principle to consider would be 2 Cor. 6:14-15, "Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?" (NASB)

118 Can aliens be real? Gen 1:6 BradK 227981
  Hello soconfused...

There is nothing within scripture that mentions aliens or other life forms. It is a topic beyond what is written, so to say anything else would be mere speculation.

God created the universe.

Gen 1:6 "Then God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters."

Gen 1:7 "God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so.

Gen 1:8 "God called the expanse heaven.

The Bible is not intended to be an exhaustive text about science (or creation), but it does provide the account of creation as written in Genesis 1.
