1 | One example of loosing salvation NT | Luke 8:13 | yampa78 | 88915
This is for everyone. Please pray for me! As some of you know from responding to my question a couple days ago, I am going through a period of intense doubt in my faith. For those of you who have never experienced doubt, let me tell you it's the scariest thing I've ever gone through in my whole life! I feel like I'm inching slowly toward a cliff of unbelief and once I go over the edge there's no return. It feels like the foundation of Christ that I've stood on most of my life is crumbling beneath my feet. I have been praying and reading my bible a lot lately hoping that it would reveal truth and put me at ease. The oposite is actually occuring. It is actually fueling my doubt because of all the ambiguity in the bible that can be interpreted in many different ways. I believe that there is absolute truth. Therefore one side of this salvation debate is right and the other is wrong (or both are wrong, but I won't go there yet.) If there is a God (which I never even questioned until 2 weeks ago), then he has given Christians the Holy Spirit to reveal truth in his word. How is it then that there can be disagreement on such a crutial issue? Wouldn't God reveal the truth to his people if his word is true? He also wouldn't let his people slip through the cracks, right? Well if you go to exchristian.org, you can read first hand stories about sincere Christians losing their faith by coming to an intelectual impass. I hope you all can give some Godly insight to help me out in this horrible time for me. Andrew |

2 | Can true Christians lose their faith? | Bible general Archive 1 | yampa78 | 88595
Doug, Thank you for your response. As for your first point, my faith is not shaken so much by inconsistancies found by others but by the fact that they lost faith because of what they found. This makes me fear that I could be one of these people. There are two ways in which people "leave the faith." 1. People love the world. They revert back to sin and turn their backs on God. Their minds once again become clouded by sin and they move further from God. This is a selfesh choice that they make. The church often says that these people never knew the truth in the trush to begin with. 2. This form is much more disturbing, and we almost never hear the church speak of such people. These are the people who have devoted their lives to study and share God's word. Then they come to a point after much studying that their logic destroys their faith. They want to believe, but evidence they've come across no longer allows them to believe. What I am struggling with is, if God is real, how could he let these people go? If you go to the website exchristian.org you can read the stories of many people who lose faith. Some of the stories are from shallow people who never really understood Christianity in the first place, but others put knots in my stomach reading them because they really understood all that the Bible teaches and still lost faith. As to the ability to lose ones salvation, I'm really not sure on the anwser. The Bible seems to have dozens of verses supporting both opinions. My problem with the idea of losing salvation is that it diminishes the atoning work of Christ. At what point is someone saved? And then at what point are they lost? After giving their life to Christ, how many sins do they need to commit to then be lost again? That brings up the question: is it our works or Christ's work that brings salvation? Then I also have a problem with the idea of election (once saved always saved). If this is the case, then Chist only died for some people. We therefore have no free will when it comes to salvation. That means some people were created just so God could send them to hell for eternal torment. Too many people today don't actually think about what they believe. They get so caught up in their jobs, hobbies, and relationships that they just believe whatever the church tells them because it sounds good and then go back to their lives without giving it any thought. It doesn't take much faith to be that kind of Christian. Real faith comes after we have struggled with a committed search for truth and find that human logic can not reason the existance God. Then a leap of faith is needed. Yampa 78 |

I grew up in a Christian home, but lately I've been searching for truth and trying to take my faith as my own. The biggest obstacle in my faith right now is the first hand stories I hear about people leaving the faith. I'm not talking about John and Jane who come to church once a month, sit in the back row, and read their bible once in a blue moon. I'm talking about former evangelists, pastors, missionaries, and seminary students. Charles Templeton is a prime example. Their conversion stories seem sincere, but they all come to a point where they see the world as it truly is and begin to doubt the existence of a loving God. Then they begin to find inconsistencies in the Bible that they had previously accepted by faith. Then they start thinking that if some of the Bible is inaccurate, then how can they trust it as a whole. At that point the foundation falls out beneath them, and all hope is lost. If John 10:25-30 is true, how can these people of faith come to a point where they can no longer believe? The most disturbing thing about the stories I've heard is that most of these people wish they were still able to believe, but their reason won't let them. They miss the hope and security of faith in Christ, but they've come to a conclusion in their minds that can not be reversed! Please help me as this issue is causing major distress in my quest for truth and my personal faith in Christ! At times it seems a curse to be such a deep philosophical thinker. Sometimes I wish I was able to have the simple childlike faith that many Christians have. |

7 | Questions on Genesis | Not Specified | yampa78 | 76516
I recently started reading Genesis, and there are several things that are really confusing to me. 1. In Genesis 4:13-17 why is Cain afraid for his life? The only people on the earth at that time were Cain, Adam, Eve, and possibly a few younger siblings. Also where did Cain's wife come from? 2. In Genesis 6:1-4 who are the sons of God, the Nephilim (giants in KGV), and the men of renown? I can't make any sense of it! |

10 | When to consult others on God's will? | Not Specified | yampa78 | 72778
In the Jan. 30 entry of "My Utmost for His Highest"(see link below), Oswold chambers says at the end, "Never ask another person’s advice about anything God makes you decide before Him. If you ask advice, you will almost always side with Satan." Can someone shed some light on what he is saying here? I was under the impression that as Christians we were to seek wise council from church leadership and our brothers in Christ. Any insight in this statement and/or the whole entry would be helpful. Thanks http://www.gospelcom.net/rbc/utmost/01/30/ |

12 | Casting lots | Acts 1:26 | yampa78 | 72773
If God is sovereign, which I believe he is, then he is ultimately in control of all outcomes. Therefore, I think that this is a legitimate way of determining God's will in certain circumstances. However, God's moral will should always be looked at and prayed about first when any decision is to be made. Casting lots is unnecessary and foolish when it is obvious that one decision is glorifying to God and the other is not. eg.- flipping a coin to decide whether you should cheat on your wife or not. That's obviously an extreme example, but I hope you get my point. This is my opinion based on what I have read and what I have been taught. If anyone disagrees with me, and has scripture to back it up, please share that information. |
