2 | Does God hear the prayers of the lost? | Acts 10:4 | xmikx | 149203
Thanks for the scripture. Last Sunday's message at church was about prayer and how God gives four different answeres to prayer: 1. no 2. not yet 3. not that way 4. yes. So I am aware that God answers all prayer, but the answer is not always what we want. And I am very glad that God is in control and not me. Thanks again. |

3 | Does God hear the prayers of the lost? | Not Specified | xmikx | 149199
Does the Bible mention God not hearing the prayers of the lost? I know He hears the prayer of salvation from the lost, but what about a lost person "praying" for her dad who is real sick with cancer? My wife and I are trying to witness to her friend. She is not yet saved, but is asking the "why" and "how come" questions that lead to the prayer of salvation. She says she is "praying", but I am not sure what the Bible says about prayer from someone who is not yet saved. Please provide scripture so we can show her. Then when she gets saved, her prayers for her dad will be heard and answered. Please and thank you. Mike |

7 | What about judgement? Heb 10:17... | Heb 10:17 | xmikx | 145589
I understand Hebrews 10:17 and am very glad that God gives us believers a clean slate each day. But, what is going to happen when we (believers) stand before the throne at the time of judgement? What are we going to be judged on if God remembers our sins and lawless deeds no more? My wife and I were discussing this topic this morning and I was unable to provide her with good information because I did not understand. Can anyone provide some clarification on this? Thank you, Mike |

8 | Do not give what is holy to dogs. means? | Matt 7:6 | xmikx | 142426
Greetings adeakin, this is from the IVP New Testament Commentary. I found this on www.biblegateway.com Even When You Are Right, Do Not Impose the Truth on Others (7:6) This saying seems to make little sense in this context; hence varied interpretations of verse 6 abound. Some think that dogs here are the Gentiles (15:26) and the pearls the gospel of the kingdom (13:45). But Jewish teachers used dogs to represent different things (not just Gentiles) in their parables, and even in 15:26 "dogs" is not wholly negative as it is here (see comment there). Other attempts to narrow the saying's object to prohibiting sinners from the Eucharist (as in Did. 9:5) also go beyond the evidence. In its most general sense 7:6 was probably simply a wisdom saying like Proverbs 23:9: "Do not speak to a fool, for he will scorn the wisdom of your words" (compare also Syr. Men. Sent. 328-32). Dogs may refer to the wicked or oppressors more generally (compare Ps 22:16, 20; 59:14-15; Prov 26:11). It was also commonly known that stray scavenger dogs-the main kind encountered in the towns of Jewish Palestine-growled at those feeding them as much as at passing strangers (Isoc. Demon. 29, Or. 1). Clearly these are people who do not value what we have to offer them; swine also proverbially lacked appreciation of value (Prov 11:22). But why did Matthew include this saying here? Some connect the saying to the preceding context by suggesting that it means it is worthless to try to correct (7:1-5) one unwilling to listen. Others note that while we should not judge, some people should be avoided or we must exercise discernment. Yet taken by themselves, none of these suggestions explain the lack of disjunction in verse 6. Most likely verse 6 provides a transition between the preceding and following contexts. Correcting those who will not receive correction is futile (vv. 1-5; Prov 9:8; 23:9); we should discerningly continue to offer wisdom (or the gift of the kingdom) only to those willing to receive what we offer, just as God does (Mt 7:7-11). In this case the text sounds a note of reciprocity to be repeated in verse 12 (Keener 1993:64). If verse 6 means something along these lines, it does not allow us to prejudge who may receive our message (13:3-23), but does forbid us to try to force it on those who show no inclination to accept it (10:13-16; compare Carson 1984:185; Blomberg 1992:128-29; Hagner 1993:172). 9 | God's family, is there anything better? | Not Specified | xmikx | 138705
God's family, is there anything better than being a child of God? This is more of a rhetorical question, but please read the following, this is Romans 8:26-30 (NLT) and then tell everyone you know that we are all adopted children and it is the greatest feeling in the world!!! 26And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don't even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will. 28And we know that God causes everything to work together[11] for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. 30And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And he gave them right standing with himself, and he promised them his glory. Mike |

11 | Can Satin read our minds?Chaser. | Bible general Archive 2 | xmikx | 138703
EdB, That was a great post! Most of us Christians do place the blame for our actions on Satan and his never ending temptations. But, when we actually get beat down enough that the only way to overcome this situation is by looking up. And then we finally turn to God for help. We sometimes turn to God as a last resort when He should be our first and only option to repent and overcome the sin in our lives. This is Romans 8:1-8 (NASB). It is very comforting to me: 1 Therefore there is now no (1) condemnation for those who are (2) in (3) Christ Jesus. 2 For (4) the law of the Spirit of life in (5) Christ Jesus (6) has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For (7) what the Law could not do, (8) weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in (9) the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the (10) requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who (11) do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on (12) the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, (13) the things of the Spirit. 6 (14) For the mind set on the flesh is (15) death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is (16) hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are (17) in the flesh cannot please God. Hey there mommapbs, If that is the idea you received from my post, my bad. I do not deny that at all. I was only commenting on the fact that God created Man, sometimes referred to Mankind which equated to Adam and Eve. The scripture says that Adam became the father of a son in his likeness, according to his image; and named him Seth. I agree with you that Adam was created in the likeness of God, but Genesis clearly states that Seth was in the image of his father Adam. Mike |

13 | Explain Haggai | Hag 1:1 | xmikx | 137600
Hello Sharon, I must confess, I had never read Haggai until seeing your post. This is a very inspirational book of the old testament. This book is a call to rebuild the Temple. If you will remember starting in Haggai 1:5, this is what the LORD Almighty says: Consider how things are going for you! 6 You have planted much but harvested little. You have food to eat, but not enough to fill you up. You have wine to drink, but not enough to satisfy your thirst. You have clothing to wear, but not enough to keep you warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes! Just before this in verse 3 3 So the LORD sent this message through the prophet Haggai: 4 "Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins? This is from my NLT Bible book introduction. The people were more concerned with their own needs than with doing God's will, and as a result, they suffered. Although Haggai is a small book, it is filled with challenge and promise, reminding us of God's claim on our life and our priorities. My take: don't just be satisfied with "getting by". Put God first and do His will and He will reward you as He did after the Temple had been rebuilt. Mike |

15 | 2 Cor 4:4 | 2 Cor 4:4 | xmikx | 137551
Hank, You know that God did not form Seth out of the dust of the ground as He did Adam. Genesis 5:1-3 says this: 'This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. 2 He Created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created. 3 When Adam had lived on hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth. (NAS) I would say that God actually created two human beings and those are Adam and Eve. pro·cre·ate v. pro·cre·at·ed, pro·cre·at·ing, pro·cre·ates v. tr. To beget and conceive (offspring). To produce or create; originate. Mike |

16 | 2 Cor 4:4 | 2 Cor 4:4 | xmikx | 137540
This is Gen 5:1-3 (NIV) 1 This is the written account of Adam's line. When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And when they were created, he called them "man. [1] " 3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. If you wil notice, only Adam was created in the image of God. When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. Seth was created in the image of Adam. Mike |

17 | need help undestanding Eph. 3:10 | Eph 3:10 | xmikx | 137533
JamesO, That was a wonderful post to read. I too struggled with trying to figure out my ministry at church. I knew I needed to be more involved, but was not sure in what area of my church. My wife and I of course started praying about what our ministry should be. After a few weeks of diligent prayer, the Youth pastor of our church approached my wife and said, "I see that you and Mike are interested in working with the youth." Now, this was very shocking to both of us as neither one of us had ever even hinted at working with the students (7th through 12th grade). As if this was not enough of a sign from God, we continued to pray about it for another couple of days. One morning, I called my wife to tell her what I 'heard' (not literally) as an answer to my ministry prayer. It was as if God said, "why do you think I had him (youth pastor) come to you?" I told this to my wife and she had the same exact feeling. So, we both joined in the student ministry. Neither one of us started serving with the expectation of: oh goody, now what do I get for doing this work for God. It was more about, ok, what more can I learn so that I will be able to contribute more than prayer for the students. Now this is not to say that prayer is not important, because prayer is a very vital part of our Christian faith as it says in Romans 12:12; Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. But, I needed to have some personal growth so that I could share more than personal testimony with these students. I have been rewarded greatly since I began serving in this ministry. I have developed great friendships with the students and have been able to share my "story" with them and how it is difficult, even as an adult, to live in this world. I tell them that it is essential to develop habits now at their age so that when they get to my age (32, but only 6 as a Christian) these habits will be part of their daily routine. But to answer your question of, why do we do what we do? Your answer is so correct!!! It should all be about God and that's it. I have been struggling with this concept for a while now. I can tell that God is ready to use me for something 'huge' right now. But, I am still thinking about what I will have to give up to gain more from Him. Example: I might have to give up TV time, Xbox time, sports magazine reading time, lying around doing nothing time. I really struggle with this. I know it is much more important to look at what I will gain. and that is favor with God!!!! I know this line of thinking is better for me and the correct thing to do, but it is still hard for me to grasp when using my abilities. So please, I ask the readers of this post to please pray for me that I might be able to completely submit to the will of the Father and what He has in mind for me. I am currently going through some marital problems as well. My wife and I are currently seperated. I had not been truthful with her about my problem with pornography in the past. Each and every time she would ask, I chose to lie to her. I went to church camp this past summer with my church. While here, God convicted me. I went down and prayed and asked for His forgiveness and repented of this sin. It was such a wonderful feeling to finally be free of this sin that had me tied up in chains for so long. I called my wife that very night to share my joy about being free from this sin. She immediately went on the attack about how she knew I was hiding something from her. There is so much more junk that happened next, but the important things are: she moved out into an apartment, our 2 year old daughter lives one week with her and the next week with me, she stopped going to church, stop talking to our friends from church and started hanging out with only "her" friends. I have continued going to church and serving in the student ministry. I shared the whole story with our pastor. He shared enough so that the staff could also pray for my wife and I. I have seen my prayer life grow considerably during this time and that might have been one of the things God wanted from me. I have seen God answer some of my prayers. My wife finally allowed herself to hear from God. She did not want to hear anything about honoring our vows and honoring our marriage because I was not thinking about our vows or our marriage when I was lying to her about the porn. But, God has changed her heart. My wife has agreed to come home. Praise God!!!! God is in the restoration business! He has restored what the world would have considered dead. All of this is further proof that all we have to do, is let go of our problems and let God be God!!! He is so much more capable than we are. So, once again, please pray for me that I will fully submit to God's will in my life. I am still wanting my treasures here on earth instead of storing my treasures in heaven as it says in Matthew 6:19-20. Mike |

20 | what does it mean to fast | Bible general Archive 2 | xmikx | 137430
Hank, Perhaps a poor choice on my part. Allow me to try a do over... srbaegon's answer is correct. But fasting does not have to be limited to going without food and/or drink only. Fasting is usually associated as a means to obtain insight from God about a particular problem, concern or situation. We usually fast (and pray) when we are facing a rather difficult situation that requires God's input. One can fast from TV, radio, sex or other things so that the "time spent" doing these activities can be utilized and better spent focusing on a conversation with God to obtain the information we seek. I apologize for my poor choice of words. Mike |
