1 | Why did Eve react like that? | Bible general Archive 4 | tigerwillow | 218513
Hi Doc, Would you call Genesis 3:1, Genesis 18:22-32, Exodus 34:11, and Exodus 33:23 Christophanies? |

2 | Why is sentence capitalized? | Matt 12:7 | tigerwillow | 218508
The words "compassion" and "mercy" come from the same Greek word "eleos". As to why the NASB chose to use compassion instead of mercy, I cannot tell you. But I don't think it should make much difference since they both mean the same thing anyway.
3 | Who opposed Jesus' ministry? | 2 Tim 2:15 | tigerwillow | 218507
The Jewish leaders (Pharisees and Sadducees) were the main opposers of Jesus' ministry here on earth. They had expectations of the coming Messiah that Jesus did not meet. For example, He was not rich or born in a palace, (Luke 2:1-17) and he did not come from a popular family or locality, (Micah 5:2) and He was not especially physically attractive. (Isaiah 53:2) He did not go about seeking a kingdom here on earth. (Psalms 145:13; Matthew 4:17) He preached many things about God and heaven that contradicted what they, as leaders, taught the people in their synagogues (churches). (Matthew 7:28) He did not keep their "Sabbath", (Matthew 12:1-14) and did many miracles that attracted the crowds to Him. (Matthew 4:23-25)
4 | where Jesus before his death | Mark 15:37 | tigerwillow | 218506
John 1:1-3 says that Jesus was in the beginning with God. And since God lives in heaven we can assume that Jesus lived there with God as well. Then in John 1:10, 14 it says Jesus came to His own in the world and dwelt among us. So in short, Jesus came from heaven to this earth before He died.
5 | Why did Eve react like that? | Bible general Archive 4 | tigerwillow | 218505
I have read John 1:18 and have come to the conclusion that John is talking about God the Father that no man has seen. But many people have seen God the Son (Jesus), and I believe that it was Jesus that Adam and Eve were talking to because Genesis 3:8 says that Adam and Eve heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the cool of the day and they hid themselves from His presence (which infers that He would have had to have been there personally). It would take quite some time and space to explain why I believe they were speaking with Jesus and not God the Father, but I can tell you if you really want to know why I believe that. I learned something new! I have never heard of theophanies and aggelos. Thank you for teaching me new words! |

7 | Why did Eve react like that? | Bible general Archive 4 | tigerwillow | 218498
I get the opinion from reading the story of Balaam that he was so angry that he was actually to the point of being irrational. I think when a person gets to that point, they are not scared of things they normally would be, or just have different reactions then they would if they were calm. I have found in my own life that when I neglect to let God be in charge of my thoughts, it is much easier to be caught in the trap of sin, no matter how irrational it may seem to the outsider. I believe both Balaam and Eve were experiencing those moments where their own selfish desire and curiosity were so alluring, they ignored the commands and the warnings of God. I believe that Satan used that particular serpent on purpose because he knew that it was stunningly beautiful and Eve would be so caught off guard with the serpent's attractiveness that the fact the it talked to her did not register as fast as it should have. We have no idea how long they were in the garden before this happened. Perhaps she was still learning about all the wonderful things in God's creation, and in her mind this was just another fascinating discovery. I have not heard of the Jewish tradition that good angels talked through animals to people, but in the Genesis account God himself talked with Adam and Eve face to face. |

8 | Does God have emotions? | John 3:16 | tigerwillow | 218495
If human beings have emotions, God must have them too, because it says in Genesis 1:26,27 that God created man in His image.
9 | shilou, what happen to it and why | OT general | tigerwillow | 218494
Jeremiah chapter 7 tells why the Israelites were defeated at Shiloh. 1 Samuel 4:10,11,22 and Psalms 78:60-64 gives more specific details of what took place in Shiloh.
