2 | Seventy seven or seventy times seven? | Matt 18:22 | thestraws | 40969
Steve and Tim, Thanks for the responses! It is interesting how there are some minor issues in translation like this. Like I alluded to in my question, I know the important point here is that we are to forgive as many times as it takes. Keeping a count would be the opposite of what Jesus meant. I just always like to know that what I say about Scripture is as accurate as I can make it. Thanks! God bless, Mike |

3 | Seventy seven or seventy times seven? | Matt 18:22 | thestraws | 40920
The NIV translates this verse: Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times." - then it has a footnote "Or seventy times seven". I've noticed translations go back and forth between the two numbers. Any idea why and what the right answer is? I know in the grand scheme of salvation, it's not that important, but it's just been a bothersome thing. |

4 | Divine Healing? | Matthew | thestraws | 39027
There is strong Scriptural evidence for Divine Healing. Of course, the incidents of healing occur throughout the Old and New Testaments. 2 Scriptures that cover it very well are: 1 Peter 2:24 - The work of Christ brings healing. John 9:1-7 (esp v 2). The man's blindness was not due to sin on his part. God had divinely appointed a time and place for the man to receive healing, so that He could be glorified. It is God's will for all of us to receive perfect and complete healing, but we live in bodies of flesh in a world that has been corrupted by sin. Not receiving a healing does not NECESSARILY mean something is wrong with us, but I do believe that there are many times we do not receive healing due to lack of fatih, but it's not a blanket rule. Ultimately our healing is in His hands, and it takes faith to receive it. That faith includes putting ourselves in the hands of a loving God Who knows what is best for us. One more note. For the Christian, I believe the ultimate healing takes place when we enter His presence for eternity, either by death or upon His return. There are times where we pray for healing, and the Lord answers it by bringing that person home. |

7 | did cain marry his sister or someone els | Genesis | thestraws | 38446
Hi, creativeh. The only reference to Cain's wife is in Genesis 4:17: Gen 4:17 (NASB) Cain had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son. Cain's wife wasn't from another country, she was a daughter of Adam and Eve. Yes, she was his sister. Hope this helps. God bless. |

8 | How should fathers treat their children? | Eph 6:4 | thestraws | 38175
Thanks, Searcher56! I appreciate the quick response. I was looking for more on the respect and love fathers should show. I think this father, and many like him, are so wrapped up in using the rod and coming down on their kids they don't know how to temper it with love. Here's what I've given him so far: NIV Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. NIV Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (This is for all Christians, including fathers!) NIV Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous. NIV Proverbs 14:26 He who fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge. NIV Proverbs 20:7 The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him. |

10 | How should fathers treat their children? | Eph 6:4 | thestraws | 37975
I have a friend whose fatgher has quoted a whole lot of Scriptures at him about respect for fathers. The problem is he seems to have taken the message of Scripture out of context, demanding his (adult) children obey him and respect him without giving any respect in return. I know Ephesians 6:4 covers how fathers should be to children. Are there any other Scriptures that can be presented as to how fathers/parents should treat their children?
