5 | Pastor's role in resolving conflict? | Eph 3:16 | soladescriptura | 20806
Matt 18:12-17(NAS/lockmanfoundation) "What do you think? If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying? If it turns out that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine which have not gone astray. So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones perish. If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that BY THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES EVERY FACT MAY BE CONFIRMED. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector" |

7 | What day are we COMMANDED to gather? | Heb 10:25 | soladescriptura | 7722
I agree!! Hebrews 10:24-25 says, "and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near." But there is no mandate as to 'when' we are supposed to gather. It does say this in Colossians about the Sabbath. Col 2:16-17 "Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day-- things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ." (NAS-lockman foundation) |

8 | Women starting churches....???? | 1 Tim 2:12 | soladescriptura | 4467
Yes, she is a sad example of unbiblical teaching. Heretical teaching. A sign of the times perhaps. |

9 | New Testament guidlines | 1 Tim 2:12 | soladescriptura | 4466
Your note does not seem to address the scripture given in 1 Tim 2:12. What does scripture specifically say about the authority of a woman over a man? Yes, Christ became a curse for us. 1 Tim 2:12 seems to be a reference to Godly living for women in the church. Is this not so?
10 | Popular opinion? or Scripture? | 1 Tim 2:12 | soladescriptura | 4464
Rom 16:1 "I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea;" This was the only passage I could find concerning Phoebe. I don't see a mention of her being a deacon in this passage. It mentions in Romans 16:2 that she was "a helper to many". This I believe is a biblical role for a woman. I think the issue is in the authority of a woman. By today's definition a deacon may not necessarily have authority. It seams that was not the case in the early church however as the verses point out in the qualifications listed, it seems that being male is a requirment. What I'm concerned and alarmed with is the trend of 'reading into' scripture' what we want to see. (having our ears tickled) rather than in humility submiting to God's perogative in the roles of men and women. If culture dictates our belief. what kind of faith is that? Faulty. God's word is the basis for our faith, everything else is subjective to fad and popular whim. I did find some other passages that put limits on who could be a deacon, though. Phil 1:1 Paul and Timothy, bond-servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, including the overseers and deacons:" 1 Tim 3:8 "Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted to much wine or fond of sordid gain," 1 Tim 3:10 "These men must also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach." 1 Tim 3:12 "Deacons must be husbands of only one wife, and good managers of their children and their own households" 1 Tim 3:13"For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus." I am concerned that we use scripture, not popular opinion, to defend our faith. Do you have any scripture to defend a woman having authority over a man? |

11 | Abiding seems to be very important in sc | John 15:4 | soladescriptura | 2094
Thank You for your insight. Your answer is in line with what I know of scripture. John 15:4-8 "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love." |

15 | Blue marbles roll faster than red ones | Rev 19:4 | soladescriptura | 733
I think that this is an excellent forum to discover truth, and to disemminate it. I don't think that we should limit our membership rolls to those who have "the correct doctrine". I do think we should have a ready defense for the hope that we have. 1 Pet 3:15 "but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence"(NAS;lockmanfoundation) |

Thank you for challenging me to look the urantia book up. It was very informative. It kind of reminded me of L.Ron Hubbard's Dianetics mixed with the teachings of the church latter-day saints (mormons). I can't say that I agree with your assesment of it value, however. 2 Cor 11:14 No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. (NAS;lockman foundation) The most effective lie, is that which contains some truth in it. I believe that the Urantia Book is clever scheme of our adversary, the devil, to distract us from truly finding the truth. John 8:31-32 ( So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." NAS;lockman foundation) Joseph Smith had a vision. He was visited by the angel moroni, this angel gave him instructions to write what became known as the book of mormon. I believe Joseph. I think he did see an angel. However, I believe he saw a fallen angel, a demon. 1 Tim 4:1 "But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons" (NAS;lockman foundation) We need to be carefull what we accept as truth and test everything. 1 John 4:1 "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."(NAS;lockman foundation) I am willing to listen to any biblical evidence that you have that might support your theories on the book of urantia being part of "Holy Scripture". |
