1 | Paul and the remaining matters? | 1 Cor 11:34 | skybender | 230521
I'm using Matthew Henry's Commentary for this answer...He closes all with a caution against the irregularities of which they were guilty (v. 33,34), charging them to avoid all indecency at the Lord's table. They were to eat for hunger and pleasure only at home, and not to change the holy supper to a common feast; and much less eat up the provisions before those who could bring none did partake of them, lest they should come together for condemnation. Christians may keep Sabbaths, hear sermons, attend at sacraments, and only aggravate guilt, and bring on a heavier doom. A sad but serious truth! O! let all look to it that they do not come together at any time to God's worship, and all the while provoke him, and bring down vengeance on themselves. Holy things are to be used in a holy manner, or else they are profaned. What else was amiss in this matter, he tells them, he would rectify when he came to them.

3 | Is James Jesus" brother? | Matt 13:55 | skybender | 229900
James, the brother of Jesus. James is first mentioned as the oldest of Jesus' four younger brothers (Matt. 13:55; Mark 6:3). The Gospels reveal that Jesus' brothers adopted a skeptical attitude towards His ministry (Matt. 12:46-50; Mark 3:31-35; Luke 8:19-21; John 7:5). James apparently held the same attitude, because his name appears in no lists of the apostles, nor is he mentioned elsewhere in the Gospels. After Jesus' crucifixion, however, James became a believer. Paul indicated that James was a witness to the resurrection of Jesus (1 Cor. 15:7). He called James an apostle (Gal. 1:19), though like himself, not one of the original Twelve (! Cor. 15:5 7). In the Book of Acts, James emerges as the leader of the church in Jerusalem. His brothers also became believers and undertook missionary travels ( 1 Cor. 9:5). But James considered it his calling to oversee the church in Jerusalem (Gal. 2:9). He advocated respect for the Jewish law (Acts 21: 18-25), but he did not use it as a weapon against Gentiles. Paul indicated that James endorsed his ministry to the Gentiles (Gal. 2: 1-10). |

6 | More accurate version of a verse | Ps 9:16 | skybender | 226658
I believe the answer lies in the previous Chapter 9:16...here its states that the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands, which would make the KJV the better of the two...But then again Jesus said that all Psalms must come true to fulfill prophesy...To where the latter would hold true, since Jesus took matters into his own hands...

9 | what does 2 Timothy 1 through 5 mean | 2 Tim 1:1 | skybender | 226614
The Home is the theme here. Remember that this is Paul's last writing! His pen was to be dried forever. This Epistle is very personal. He mentions twenty-three individuals. Although alone and facing death, yet he forgot himself in thinking of others. Timothy had been reared in a sweet Christian home, with his mother Eunice and his grandmother Lois. Paul mentions these wonderful Christian women and commends Timothy for having had early training at a consecrated birth. Paul calls Timothy his "son in the faith" (1:2) It seems clear that the youth was led to confess Christ by Paul during his first missionary journey. He was a Christian forom childhood. It is no surprise that Paul saw in timothy a lad of promise as a minister in the early Church. He became Pauls "understudy," and at the end of the apostle's life, he was the best man to whom Paul could turn over his work. Parental example is the greatest answer to the problems that youths face today...Usually starting at home...Parents either don't go to church or have no spiritual guidance in their life...Which is handed down to the youth...Timothy was truly a son in faith (1:2)
10 | How do you worship god | John 4:23 | skybender | 226567
Jesus instructs us, "And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly" (Matt. 6:5,6
11 | name disicples inorder at last supper | Luke 22:23 | skybender | 226494
Looking across the Picture from Left to Right: Bartholomew-James Minor and Andrew (Form a group of three)-All are aghast. Andrew to the point of holding his hands up in a "Stop" gesture. Judas, Peter, and John form the next group of three. Judas, you will note has his face in shadow and is clutching a small bag (of silver?). Peter is visibly angry and a feminine looking John seems about to swoon. Christ is the calm in the midst of the storm. Thomas, James Major and Phillip are next. Thomas is clearly agitated, James Major stunned and Phillip seems to be seeking clarification. Matthew, Thaddeus and Simon comprise the last group of three figures. It appears that, when a situation turns ugly, Simon is the "go to" guy for explainations. Lk.22:23

13 | Just wondering what lent is about | Matt 16:21 | skybender | 226388
Jesus' temptation reveals the way in which the Son of God is Messiah, contrary to the way Satan proposes to him and the way men wish to attribute to him. This is why Christ vanquished the Tempter for us: "For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sinning." (Heb4:15) By the solemn forty days of Lent the Church unites herself each year to the mystery of Jesus in the desert.

18 | Did God the Father create Jesus | Heb 1:3 | skybender | 225987
Jn1:1,Col1:15,Heb1:3....In the Apostles Creed we believe in Jesus Christ. We profess our faith in Jesus with the Nicene Creed in which we believe in One God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is,seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us men and our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. And to answer your question, I guess it would be safe to say Jesus was not part of creation...Because he is eternally begotten of the father as professed by our faith. |
