1 | Polygamy in the bible | Ex 21:10 | shpagach | 99664
Dear Makarios: I will add your corrections to my list, and give you my appreciation even more so! Believe me when I say I learn more from those who confess their short comings than from those who do not. Just for future reference, it is Sister in Christ. I look forward to more of your insight as questions arise! Blessings also to you, Shpagach (Shelley) |

2 | Polygamy in the bible | Ex 21:10 | shpagach | 99660
Makarios: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For your wonderful insight. I'm printing this out and looking up every one of these scriptures. As to your question regarding my professor's faith. I'm not sure if there is one to begin with. It is a sociology class, and very humanistic. You should see the look on my professor's face anytime something remotely spiritual comes up. Maybe that's why I'm there, to be a light in the darkness. I don't know. I didn't feel very bright the other day, but it's getting brighter by the minute! Thank you again! Shpagach |

3 | Polygamy in the bible | Ex 21:10 | shpagach | 99616
One of my college professor's stated that God approved of polygamy, using Exodus 21:10 as an example. What does the bible say about polygamy? Exodus 21:10 gives instructions for when a man takes "another woman as his wife", but Deut 17:17 gives instructions that the king should not multiply his wives, and 1 Kings 11:3-4 confirms Deut 17:17. Are there other passages to coincide with Deut 17:17? I know polygamy was not God's original intention, but many of the men of God had more than one wife (or concubines) (Abraham, Jacob, Gideon, King David, King Solomon, etc). How do I defend my position? Thanks in advance for your insight, Shpagach |

4 | Mental Illness | Not Specified | shpagach | 98562
What does the bible say about mental illness? My spouse was diagnosed with bipolar disorder July 2001. I have done research and we have done research together. We are in counseling, and I am in individual counseling, but I still feel like giving up at times. I struggle with how this will affect our children as they get older. I'm looking for scriptures to give me hope. Thank you.

6 | How important is the Torah? | Not Specified | shpagach | 98014
How important is the Torah (first 5 books of the bible)? What does Matthew 5:17-18 mean to the everyday Christian? According to some teachers of Messianic Judiasm, the Torah is the focal point of the ENTIRE bible, from Genesis to Revelation. It has been explained to me that everything Jesus did or said referred back to Torah, and that Torah (the law) is FOREVER. If Torah is FOREVER, then where does the NEW covenant come in? I could really use some clarification.

9 | What does Jeremiah 31:31-34 refer to? | Not Specified | shpagach | 98013
What does Jeremiah 31:31-34 refer to? As a Christian, I was always taught this was the new convenant we live under (Grace) because Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice and mediator of this covenant. (Hebrews 9:15) I've been discussing faith with a friend who converted to Messianic Judiasm. There are those who put a totally different spin on this, say the "new" covenant was only for Israel and Judah (vs. 31) I don't see it that way. I see that Jesus went to the Jews first, but then open the way for the gentiles through Paul. How do I prove it? Or can I?

13 | Circumcised of the heart? | Gen 17:10 | shpagach | 97853
Dear Asis: Thank you very much. Your answer helps a lot. I have a friend who converted to Messanic Judiasm. We've had many interesting, and sometimes heated discussions about faith. I have been praying and reading my bible, trying to figure out answers to the questions she brought up. It has been disturbing at times, and I have doubted (however so slightly) my position with God, but NEVER God himself. Your answer gives me strength. Thank you! shpagach
