2 | Resent being sent (back)? ..smile | 2 Cor 5:8 | shibboleth | 160902
Well said Doc. I like your thought on consciousness being "a part of being a whole human being (body and soul united)". That makes sense to me. I agree also that we cannot speculate too much, without getting outside of the realm of Scripture. I often like to try and imagine the thoughts and feelings of those who interacted with our Lord while He was here in the flesh... how it felt to Peter when he walked on water... how it felt to John to lay his head on the Lord's chest... how it must have made the disciples feel to see Him perform all those miracles... Sometimes however, in my imaginings, I find myself wandering out beyond the scope of the Scriptures and need to be pulled back. Thank you for doing so in a loving way. In Christ, shibboleth |

3 | Resent being sent (back)? ..smile | 2 Cor 5:8 | shibboleth | 160898
Thank you for clearing that up. Does this mean then that those who were resurrected may have had conscious knowledge that their spirits had been in Heaven (if they were saved, of course). I know if my spirit was in Heaven, I wouldn't want to be sent back to my body! :-)
4 | The dead know nothing?... | 2 Cor 5:8 | shibboleth | 160895
Thanks Doc. That leads me to my next question... The Bible says: "the dead know nothing" (Ecc 9:5). Is our conclusion here then, that those who were ressurected had no conscious memory of their spirits having been in Heaven? We know that Paul had a memory of having been "caught up into Paradise" (in 2 Cor 12:4). When we die and our spirits go to Heaven, while we are awaiting the ressurrection, (those of us who are saved of course!), do our spirits not have conscious knowledge of our lives on earth?
5 | Where were spirits of those ressurrected | Not Specified | shibboleth | 160888
Verses like these (and others) seem to teach that people (other than Jesus) have gone to Heaven. Some verses are clear that it is the spirit that went to Heaven, others are clear that the person themselves went to Heaven (or Paradise): Genesis 5:24 - Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. Eccl 12:7 then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. 2 Kings 2:11 - As they were going along and talking, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire, which separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven. Luke 9:30 - And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah, Luke 16: "Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. Luke 23:43 - And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise." Acts 7:59 - They went on stoning Stephen as he called on the Lord and said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!" 2 Corinthians 5:8 - We are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. Philippians 1:23 - But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better. My question is: What happened to Lazarus’ spirit during the 4 days he was dead, before Jesus raised him? (John 11:43) And what happened to the little girl’s spirit (Luke 8:55) before Jesus raised her from the dead? What about the young man that Paul brought back to life (Acts 20:12)? Were all of their spirits called back to their bodies from Heaven? |
