1 | Greek Question in Romans | Rom 7:25 | rzacc | 189944
It is the result of having struggled with the concept in class, and trying to explain it to students ... God created it. Coram Deo, ronz "If God requires of the sinner, dead in sin, that he should take the first step, then he requires just that which renders salvation as impossible under the gospel as it was under the law, since man is as unable to believe as he is to obey." C H Spurgeon |

2 | Greek Question in Romans | Rom 7:25 | rzacc | 189941
And AMEN back to you. It is so refreshing to find a list that exhibits some depth of spiritual understanding. I have been involved in so many discussions with people who just do not make the connection. What do you think about the following?: One way I have come to look at our daily walk, and our struggle with our own failures and sins, is through the following acronym: I D I D. -as in "I did". I: Impotence. We must come to the realization that we are totally helpless, and can do nothing on our own. D: Dependance. As a result of our impotence, we must see ourselves utterly dependant upon Him and any good which comes from anything in our lives must come as a result of our complete dependance upon Him. I: Intimacy. In order to maintain any degree of consistancy, we need an intimate relastionship. D: Discipline. It's a long walk, and we learn by, and things get easier and more consistent, through repitition. We need discipline. Anyway, just some ramblings as a result of too much time to think lately...it's been a long winter! Coram Deo, ronz To you: Courage, Strength, Honor, and Unfathomable Grace ps: Someone has well-said: You Can Not Make Faith A Work. |

3 | Paul's flesh | Rom 7:25 | rzacc | 189938
OK, I did not at all mean to imply you were accusing! Not at all... That was a joke! I really did not know it was an '04 post until you pointed it out. Thanks for doing that. It just popped up as a reply to what I had asked, and I thought it was current. I better just sit back and read more of the list activity before opening my mouth, because I am brand new to this and do not know how it works. Are there no moderators to the list? I bet it has gotten rather hot in the past, no? Also, is it set up so any posts which deal with any subject matter at hand, come back as replies, regardless of when they were written? Thanks for helping me though on this. I don't mean to express my ignorance but it's new. Thanks again. God Bless you richly with HIs presence today in a special way! In His Love, ron |

5 | Greek Question in Romans | Rom 7:25 | rzacc | 189930
Howdy, and thanks for your reply. I am in Teller County - Park County line at Lk George. Dont worry about the finder's fee- I can look it up. I thought for a long time that :25 was the answer to the question in :24 also, but have decided against it. In order to make it answer the question, one must expand the text beyond it's limits. He is surely thanking God for the battle! It is proof that the Spirit is working in the heart..without the Spirit, no war- Also see Galatians 5:17-26. Why is it still a reality? I think part of the answer to that is that our sanctification, not unlike our justification, is 'by faith'. He has told us the reality of our new nature in Christ in Rom 5-7, and 'a man is as he thinks (or believes)'. If our faith is real, we will believe it and live it. Thus our conformity to Chirst in our 'walk', our our 'condition', is a matter of faith - there is not othe way to win that battle. And, since faith is a gift of God, HE gets the glory for it in the end, not us. Thus in Rev. 4 we cast our crowns at His feet! Truly "all things are from Him, and through Him, and To Him, to HIM be the Glory forever...Amen!" Just one man's opinion, and it's worth exactly what you paid for it! Blessings rzacc Have courage. Stand always for the truth, remain dependant upon Him and humble before His word, and God will use you to change your world! Have courage. Stand always for the truth, remain dependant upon Him and humble before His word, and God will use you to change your world! |

6 | Flesh serving...? | Rom 7:25 | rzacc | 189929
Howdy- the 'flesh', meaning the old man, the old nature, is still with us - hanging on to our bodies... It is the battle we face as believers daily with sin, with which we will struggle until we get rid of this body (8:23). Paul, in his flesh- his old man, still fought with sin, as we do. But the great thing is that 'with my mind, I serve the law of God!'. He says that 'the willing is present in my', not to sin, but it's "the doing" that I have problems with! I can relate to that, can't you?? rz ps: The Amplified puts the words HE WILL into the text, and they are not present, nor are they implied. That verse is NOT the answer to the question from the previous verse, as the Ampl. implies, and to which many paraphrases ellude. I believe either 1. the question is rhetorical, and expresses the frustrating conclusion to the battle he has been struggling with, (after explaining the positional reality in Chapter 6-7), or 2. He sees The answer in his presentation of Chapter 8. I am leaning toward the first explanation, but the jury is still out. Your thoughts??? Coram Deo, ronz "Are you all alone?" asked the man as I rode in the dark past his cabin in the snow. "Are you all alone?" asked the stars. "Are you all alone?" echoed the hills. If a man is all alone in this miraculous world, then a neighbor is no help. |

7 | Paul's flesh | Rom 7:25 | rzacc | 189927
Yes he is. It is a summary of the battle which he just finished explaining in Ch 7. That is the battle that ever believer faces with the flesh.. and He thanks God for that battle, becasue without the Holy Spirit in residence, there is not battle. That war is an indication that the Spirit is alive and well within us. He takes up the Spirit's securing us now and into eternity in the next chapter... What a life chaning study is Romans 6-8. The question I had was in trying to make the connection by the use of 'apa ouv', and come up with an adequate English translaton. I do not believe that there is a smooth transition, unless one tortures the text. I don't think the amplified helps. May the Grace and Peace of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you. Coram Deo, ronz |

8 | Greek Question in Romans | Rom 7:25 | rzacc | 189926
Thank you Tim. I will check out the site. And, thanks for your comments concerning 'therefore then'...or 'that, in conclusion.'...or... whatever. I'll put that to work this week, as the study continues! Ad Coram Deo, rz "They who know Thee not, may call upon Thee other than Thou are, and so worship not Thee, but a creature of their own fancy. Therefore, enlighten our minds, that we may know Thee as Thou are, so that we may perfectly love Thee, and worthily praise Thee." –Augustine of HIppo |

9 | I need a NT verse... | Lev 18:6 | rzacc | 189925
Hu? What happened to incest? When? Where? Who? How? Why? I guess it was condemned on the cross with all other sins, in the flesh of Christ. rz ps: Are you asking why it is not specifically condemned in the New Testament?? I can answer that, I believe. In the New Testament, we operate not by a list of rules, but by means of a relationship with the God who is the author of all. We have His Spirit living within us. We are dead to the law, which was never kept, even under the old system. Morality is still morality, but we do not need a set of rules on the church door to guide us..we have the Lord of Glory living within us. Actually, we are freed from the law IN ORDER THAT we might bear fruit to God!!" Romans 7:4. No fruit to God (holiness) while law is still in place! Only condemnation. What an interesting and life changing topic. May the Lord of Glory Bless you beyond measure as you struggle with His word and then apply it to your own life, to His Glory. Ad Coram Deo, ronz Faith is not believing that God can save me, it is Knowing that He DID! |

10 | Greek Question in Romans | Not Specified | rzacc | 189893
Greetings All. A Newbie here. I am in Colorado. My first post, and Im not even sure how this formu works, but here goes....duh.. Studying Romans 7-8. I would like to find a site in which I can search the Greek New Testmament...doe anyone know of such a site? The specific question I have is with the words apa ouv in Romans 7:25. It is obvious that Paul is drawing a conclusion, and giving thanks to God for that conclusion, and not answering the question he asked in the previous verse, however, I am struggling with a legitimate and understandable way to translate this into English. Alos, is there another example in the NT where this word pattern is used? Thanks in advance. rz |

13 | I need a NT verse... | Lev 18:6 | rzacc | 189892
Howdy. May I express my view on this? I know of no such reference. The dividing of the law into it's three components is unbiblical, and was not done, from what I understand, until the Roman Church. It is always expressed as a unit: the Law. One can not even accurately draw a line between the components within the law itself. I believe that you are leading yourself down a very confusing pathway. It is much safer to just take Romans 5-6 for what it says (and Galatians, Heb 8, etc. also). then build another Covenant understanding from the New Testament. Both covenants are built upon the same foundation: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and strength and your neighbor as yourself. From that point, they diverge. Best to you. rzacc |
