Just to add to Docs answer: Gal 1:8 says "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!" And Paul says in 2 Cor 11:14 "No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light." Also regarding the lying prophet in 1 Kings 13: "He said to him, "I also am a prophet like you, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, 'Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.'" But he lied to him." These are all examples of warnings against being lured into believing false doctrine or guidance. Additionally, the closing of the canon of Scripture should also warn us that no further revelation of doctrine is to be given by God today. Indeed, one could argue that any claims to have recieved additional revalation of doctrine should be summarily rejected as false. - T |

Amen memmapbs. Something I read in a book by John MacAarthur (Hard to Believe), which I recommend, goes something like this: "as the Father draws them, they hunger; as they hunger, they listen; as they listen, Jesus captures them; as Jesus captures them, He keeps them." Not sure about the accuracy of the quote (or my memory sometimes), but slavation starts and ends with God. - T |
