1 | revpete79, When did he speak in tongues? | 1 John 3:24 | revpete79 | 172325
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this because my purpose is to enlighten others on another possible point of view not to argue with everyone who holds a different point of view. God Bless and I hope we get to meet in heaven some day!
2 | Jesus said He would sent the Holy Spirit | 1 John 3:24 | revpete79 | 172324
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. Acts 8:15 who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. Acts 8:16 For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 8:17 Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit. Although tongues are not mentioned here there was some obvious outward sign that could be seen or heard as Simon offered to pay for the ability to give people the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands. How sad for him that he misinterprited what was happening. Acts 9:17 So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." Again tongues are not spacifacally mentioned yet we do know from Pauls own testimony in 1Corinthians 14 that he spoke in tongues often, "more than you all" as he put it Acts 10:44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. Acts 10:45 All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. Acts 10:46 For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying. |

The gift of being baptized in the Holy Spirit is waht you are seeking. Speaking in tongues is a by product that acts as the initial physical evidence that you have received from God what you are asking for. This evidence in not as important as it is that your life changes in that you will have the Holy spirit pray for or through you in ways that will enrich you life as he speaks mysteries to God. Also you should have a greater desire to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with your world. Simply open yourself to the moving of the Holy Spirit in your life and begin to praise the Lord out loud with your voice in english. As you sense the Spirit of God putting sylables and words in you mind say them. Do not fear that while you are praising God The devil will slip in and give you false words because he doesn't like to be around true worship of God. Ask Jesus to baptize you for he is our baptizer and believe and you will receive. May God's Blessings be upon you as you seek to grow in your faith and knowledge of Him. I'll be praying for you! 4 | revpete79, When did he speak in tongues? | 1 John 3:24 | revpete79 | 172267
I'm confused are you trying to say that paul never spoke in tongues after being filled with the Holy Spirit. The evidence already stated would say other wise. The Bible does not give blow by blow accounts of peoples lives, it does not share with us when they went to the bathroom does that mean that they didn't. No, it's sharing highlights of their lives, that which it is important for us to know. Paul spoke in tongues and it's accurate to surmise that it began when he was baptized in the Holy Spirit because it was a common sighn among new testimat believers who were filled with the Holy Spirit. Chapter 13 has to do with a prophecy concerning the call that God was placing on his life to be a missionary to the gentiles. Chapters 22 and 26 are recountings of his salvation experience, not his being filled with the Holy Spirit. Check out Act 10:47-48 The gentiles had received the Holy Spirit just as the Jews had and peter ordered that they then be batized in water as well, again no mention that they spoke in tongues. But in chapter 11 as he defends his acceptance and batism of gentiles Acts 11:15-17 What was it that told Peter that they had been filled with the Holy Spirit if it was not that they spoke in tongues just as the jews had back in Acts 2? Also look at Acts 19:6 The Spirit came upon them and they spoke in tongues. |

Each of us seems to be convinced of what we believe and that's biblical, probably niether of us will change our minds no matter how much back and forth there is on this topic. I have discussed these things in much detail with several people and find that in true Christian love we can agree to disagree and be more effective if we will each get out and share the gift of salvation that we have recieved with as many others as we can. I and all my pentecostal brothers and all of my fundamentalist friends will all meet in heaven some day and find that God gave to each of us what we needed so that we would faithfully serve Him. I have groaned in the spirit, I have spoken in tongues, I have sung in the spirit and I find my life blessed by the God of the Holy Bible as a result. I want to take advantage of all that God has for me and give others the opportunity to do the same. I have no wish to argue or cause division. If I open a few eyes to new possibilities for God to work in thier lives I'm happy. May God Bless You Richly as you continue to serve him. In Christ Love, revpete
6 | revpete79, When did he speak in tongues? | 1 John 3:24 | revpete79 | 172259
I don't know what you mean by my belief, you seam to think I believe one must be baptized in the Holy Spirit to be saved, which I do not believe. He would have spoken in tongues for the first time when He was baptized in the Holy Spirit as the other believers had in Acts 2:4 and continued to speak in tongues as a part of his devotional prayer life when he did not know what to pray for or how best to pray allowing the Holy Spirit to pray through him speaking to God. 1 Corinthians 14:2,18 and 26 tongues are among those things that must be done "for the strengthening of the church." Also verse 39 "do not forbid speaking in tongues." |

1. Batized, Batism come from the greek word baptidzo which means to emerse. You may look it up in any greek english dictionary. 2, Paul himself said I speak in tongues more than you all. 3. As belivers we are all emersed into the body of Christ regardless of our backgrounds when we come to accept Jesus Christ as our savior and Lord even pentecostals and non-pentecostals. Our love for one another is the evidence of our salvation. So we must learn to love even those we disagree with. 4. I see the book of acts as giving us a lot of information about the early church and love to see when the modern day church puts these things into action. A few of my best friends are baptist preachers and we have talked about these things and in the spirit of friendship have agreed that we are all believers in spite of our differences over things that are not nearly as important as do you know Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. We strive to make it difficult for anyone from our communities to die without first hearing a clear presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. More will be accomplished for the kingdom of God if we will keep that in focus and do less bickering about pet doctrines among ourselves |

9 | Jesus said He would sent the Holy Spirit | 1 John 3:24 | revpete79 | 172235
You recieve the Holy Spirit, when you accept Jesus Christ into your heart as your personal Lord and Savior by Confession of your Sin, Believing that Jesus died to take your sins upon himself, and Announce to others your faith in the Lord. Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; Rom 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" The Baptism of the Holy Spirit which is seperate (Acts 19:2 He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.") and means that you have been fully emersed in the Holy Spirit just as Baptized means that fully emersed in water. The first evidence that you have been fully emersed in the Holy Spirit is that you will speak in a tongue that you have not learned and do not understand. Acts 2:4. Five times in the Book of Acts it talks about people who recieved the Baptism of or in the Holy Spirit and 3 of those times it spacifically mentions that they spoke in tongues. It does not say it about the gentiles but when Peter is telling the Apostles about it later he says they spoke in tongues just like we did at the beginning and we Know from 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 that Paul made a habit of speaking in tongues. He is the other case not spacifacally mentioned in Acts. So it was the common practice of the early church for people to speak in tongues as evidence that they had been baptized in the Holy Spirit. This is not to be the only evidence however and this experienc should in fact be brought into question is no further evidence appears. There should come with it a greater prayer life as you allow the holy Spirit to pray through you when you don't know how to pray. Rom 8:26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; It should also be accompanied by a greater desire to share the Word of God with others through personal testimony of what God is doing in our lives. Acts 1:8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." As Spirit filled believers we are to be witnesses for the Gospel of Jesus Christ whever we find ourselves. Just like salvation, the Baptism of or in the Holy Spirit is recieved by Faith in Jesus Christ, who is the giver of the gift. |
