2 | Desire for GOOD? | Hebrews | rachiero | 180538
CDBJ - Agreed. An allegory. Some technical glitch occurred since kumkum posted the original question about the sweat as drops of blood along with some mention of Judas Iscariot. I replied to him, or so I thought. I do not see my note anywhere. But, think of this: The degree of agony Jesus felt as He was about to go to the cross - Why does the author, prompted by the Holy Spirit, put it the way he did? The author knew what sweat looked like. he knew sweat as any other man, whether it was a light perspiration to a heavy sweating during exertion. But why would he use the words "like drops of blood" as a simile as you say? Was it a reference to the color of the drops? Could Jesus have broken tiny capillaries on his forehead or other places on his face where the strain and stress show up - if so, He literally could have had a mixture of sweat and blood. Which describes agony more - literal drops of sweat or literal drops of blood within the sweat? Obviously they both do, nothwithstanding it was night, the sun was down, and it was spring in Israel. Low humidity, mild temperatures. Jesus did not sweat because of ambient temperature. No, he sweated because of the intensity of His prayer to the Father, blood or no blood. RAC |

Excellent point Tim - that's a good example of why anyone desiring leadership needs strong, solid, word based counsel. Thank you. Rich |

6 | gift of healing same as prayer of faith | 1 Cor 12:9 | rachiero | 159496
First off, Tim I commend you for your thorough and thoughtful handling of this subject. I line up with you in that I too have experienced the gifts of the Holy Spirit (in fact just ten minutes ago) and they have been apart of my life for twenty years. It seems incredulous to me that folks would believe that the gifts were only for that 1st Century church, as if the intital establishment of the church was all that required the open, visual, evidence of the power of God. What about today? What would be/could be the state of the church here in the United States if the genuine supernatural flow of God was commonly evident? Instead to a large degree we have many churches that do not flow in power, nor the gifting, yet seem to be the very ones who excuse their weakness on the fact that the gifts went away 2000 years ago. Friends, I read yesterday that the ACLU is backing a Wiccan priest in a lawsuit in Virginia to be able to operate as Christians and Jews in leading prayer before city board meetings. In California there is a referendum before voters that asks 'should be parents be notified before their children have abortions?'. And people do not think we need the gifts of the Holy Spirit today? Where is the fear of God in the public arean? Miracles of God caused fear to the people, since they knew that the apostles in that case were not whistling dixie. The evidence was real - and palpable, which is just what the Lord intended. The church in many cases (not all) become easy, country clubish, and very soft on sin. We need to not only challenge people with the gospel, we also need to preach and teach the shed blood of Christ; but we also need to share that comfort and power of the Holy Ghost as promised by Jesus, and prophesied by Joel and many others. We must impact the culture with the good things of God. The miracle working power of God is just the tool to do that. God bless all of you - Rich |

7 | I want my wife back | Bible general Archive 3 | rachiero | 158038
Friends - Slow down and take a deep breath. What did Jesus say about divorce with regard to adultery? He said "it was only given to you by Moses because of the hardness of your heart." To each of you I would encourage with this statement by Jesus - 'with men this impossible, but with God nothing is impossible." My take on all this (and it is first hand, real life) is that it takes one to believe God at His word. It is quite easy to land on the truth of the word in each of these situations. God hates divorce - that's in Malachi, and other places. If God hates divorce, then in my pea brain it means he will do whatever is necessary with a willing, faithful, obedient, prayerful, consecrated heart to turn around the darkest of situations. Will he violate a free will? No. But, the same God who parted the Red Sea can deal with a wife who is afraid, or a husband who has been in bondage. Remember, the devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy -marriages, lives, cities, nations, you, and me - BUT, Jesus came that we may have life , and that more abundantly. And, God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. I would urge each of you to pray that verse over yourselves and over your spouses. God Bless You Both as you stand on His word! |

8 | release of my husband to God | 1 Cor 7:13 | rachiero | 158018
If I may ask, who initiated this separation and why? My wife left me some years ago. At the time I was at best "carnal". Nominal in attendance, doing drugs here and there, and generally a confused, angry young man. No evidence of christ likeness in me. She left, because - she saw no future. Months went by, I chased the world. Then she said, I don't love you anymore, and I broke. I heard an audible voice in my car one night -"Richard, what are you doing?" I turned to the back seat where the voice seemed to come from. No one was there. In an instant I knew who it was, and what I had to do. God did a 180* turn in my life. It took a long time, but everything about me changed - for the better, everything. My ultimate place of peace came when I literally gave my wife (who by now had filed for divorce)back to God where she rightfully belonged, and I took her off the cross and put Jesus front and center in my life where he belonged. That opened one of the best periods in my life, even though she was still gone. As it turns out, through a string of incredible events, my wife and I overturned the petition for divorce 7 days before it was to be final. Now many years and three children later, I (we) can say that we know what it means to have a one flesh marriage. But from the time she left til she returned was 18 months. I trusted God and refused to beleive anything else but victory. Most important verse on marriage for men in my book is "Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave His life for her." Nothing can top that - and I have never met a woman who did not want to be loved like that, out of which she will naturally respect and honor that kind of a man, which is what a man wants. Remember, God hates divorce - and he does not like it at all when a man deals treacherously with his wife. To me the husband being spiritual head, does set the tone for the marriage. Hope that is of value to you. |

These verses apply to a woman who has an unbelieving husband. If that is your situation, then these are appropriate.
11 | Quenching the Holy Spirit? | 1 Thess 5:19 | rachiero | 158005
Literal translation of "quench" is to "suppress". We shut down the flow of the Holy Spirit by ignorance, or by design. There is so much He wants to do in us, but we limit Him through our own unbelief, or religious practice. The issue of conviction is quite different than form what the author of Thessalonians was pointing out. I think a look at Romans 8:13 provides good insight. "But if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the body.." The Holy Spirit will show you where you missed God's standard, and will also enable you to conquer that area so that you (or I) am no longer in bondage to it.
