1 | What do we think about Uzza’s death? | Not Specified | pricefhome | 32146
. Uzza Touches the Ark (1 Chronicles 13) 7And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab: and Uzza and Ahio drave the cart. 8And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.9And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled. 10And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God. 11And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzza: wherefore that place is called Perezuzza to this day. 12And David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?” What do we think about Uzza’s death? In The Holiness of God, R.C. Sproul uses this episode during the early reign of King David to introduce a discussion of the holiness of God’s justice. About Uzza’s action he writes: Surely Uzzah’s reaction was instinctive. He did what any pious Jew would do to keep the ark from falling in the mud. He reached out his hand to steady the ark, to protect the holy object from falling. It was not a premeditated act of defiance toward God. It was a reflex action. From our vantage point it seems like an act of heroism. We think that Uzza should have heard the voice of God shouting down from heaven crying, “Thank you, Uzza!” God didn’t do that. Instead, he killed him. (pp. 138-139) Numbers 4:15 commands the Kohathites, who had the care of the holy things, saying, “…but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die.” Uzza was a Kohathite, he knew the rules, but he touched the ark anyway. His death is an example of divine justice—and to the extent that we do not understand it, or even sympathize, we show that we do not appreciate Biblical concepts like holiness, justice, sin and grace. [See Sproul for a much fuller discussion of this.] 2. David Tries Again (1 Chronicles 15) 11And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab, 12And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it. 13For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order. Now, David has determined to complete the ark’s journey to Jerusalem. What is striking about this second attempt? David, who was angry when God killed Uzza, now gives a reason for God’s action: “[because] we sought him not after the due order.” This passage ought to send chills down our spine. We are accustomed to thinking of God hiding behind every bush, just waiting for someone to seek Him so He can jump out and pour His love on them. And yet, David’s words imply that it is not enough to seek God; we must seek him “after the due order”—in other words, the right way. |

One of the first books I read...Excellent book. I have read many good books over these last two years. Currently reading, "Creating Love" by John Bradshaw...it too is a great book but needs to be read along with the bible in keeping focused with spiritual truth vs worldly truth. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks Hank! "The fool utters his whole heart" I think that's a proverb. Also, when I posted my question, I was in a desperate struggle for an answer...I haven't limited my search to the web. In my recent study of David. There were serious consequences to his sin. I'm sure there have been serious negative consequences to our sinful start! David lost his son due to his sin…We also lost our son…his death could have been used by the Almighty God to get our attention or could have been punishment for our sin… God did bless David with another son and he loved that son! Also, in the end "The Last Words of David" IISam.23 "…Is not my house right with God? Has he not made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secured in every part? Will he not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire?" I think everything worked out pretty good for David. Its important for me to Know Know Know that God loves me and is in full control and is working everything out for my best interest and for the benefit or good of those whom I love! |

Thank you so very much for your post!!! I am in 100-percent agreement with every word! God helps us so we can help others! Be encouraged, your words are helpful! Please remember our family in your prayers...also, I lost my job today...I had been with this bank for the last three years...and they came in and cut me loose. But I had some intense prayer time this morning where I deeply asked God to help me and this was his answer...so I know he has much better things in store for me and my family. So, pray!

Let me take one issue from your post, "God did put you together, even as unbelievers" I have been told that God allowed us to get married even though it may not have been what He knew was best for our individual lives... But let me ask you to support your viewpoint alittle more. Thanks

Believe me, all of these prayers and thoughts shared are very helpful to me!!! They are affirmation that the perseverance to this point has been in obedience to God! I believe it's important to remain teachable in order to mature…and its important to always "give thought to your ways!" I want to be a child that listens to his father and in so doing pleases the Father!!! Thank you.

Thanks, My wife and I started attending a "start up church" after we lost our son. She stopped attending about six months ago...about the same time the founding paster decided to leave. He felt his gift was starting up churches and felt God was calling him to move on... He knew about our situation and said for me to call on him at any time but that marriage counseling wasn't his strong suit. I have got to know several of the men there and they all know of my situation but most of them are young and have limited life experience to relate to my situation. This church only meets on Sunday mornings...and has gone through a lot of problems with issues of its founding. I also attend, on Sunday evenings, by my self, a very large church of about 10,000 members which has four repeated services each week...but its hard to get connected with such a large church. I also attend a Christian 12Step Support Group weekly, and its helpful! I have other brothers that I can call on for support when needed to process situations as they occur. One of them is a christian counsler who is wealthy and retired and doesn't charge money for his time. I'm also looking for another smaller church for my boys...we visited another church last weekend and its seems to be a good place for the children but doesn't have the meat that I am needing. The larger church is where I get fed!!! Please remember us in your prayers!!! |

Thanks for the prayers!!! I do have a support group around me…it is amazing how God takes care of his children…I find myself exactly were I believe God wants me…as difficult as that might be. I simple want His lead and not to be deceived! That’s why I have also used this medium. |
