1 | Please explain "double edged sword" | Heb 4:12 | preach | 32830 | ||
The reference to the double-edged sword speaks of the swords that the Roman SPQR (the army) invented in their days of glory. They used these swords during battle and tore their enemies to pieces before they could swing their sword twice. No other nation had these twoedged swords, so it took them twice as long to do the same amount of damage. Brute warriors were caught by surprise, and the Roman army grew in popularity thanks to this sword. Every reference in the bible to the 'twoedged' or 'double-edged' swords, (depending on what version you read), is referring to the sharpness, and just the symbolism that these swords represented, in that they were so powerful. I hope this helps you. :) [Other references: Psalm 149:6, Proverb 5:4, Hebrews 4:12, Revelation 1:16, 2:12] |
