1 | Benny Hinnes Ministry! | 1 John 4:1 | mbyrne | 145985
This post has nothing to do with Benny. It is in reply to your statment 'I do hope he is living for one reason ... and that is getting soul's saved.' I was recently challenged by this teaching, and I thought that you might like to read it too: "Nowadays the great passion is the passion for souls, but you never find that passion mentioned in the New Testament, it is the passion for Christ that the New Testament mentions. It is not a passion for men that saves men; a passion for men breaks human hearts. The passion for Christ inwrought by the Holy Ghost goes deeper down than the deepest agony the world, the flesh and the devil can produce. It goes straight down to where Our Lourd went, and the Holy Ghost works out, not in thinking, but in living, this passion for Christ. Whenever the passion for souls obscures the passion for Christ, Satan has come in as an angel of light." - Oswald Chambers That's a tough teaching, but I really think that it is true. I am striving to fix all my passion on God, not on men's souls (or anything else). |

3 | is the death sentence justified accordin | Gen 9:6 | mbyrne | 145981
Matthew 5:38-40 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I [Jesus] tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well." God wants us to be completely abandoned to Him. We are called to give up all of our rights, and put all of our hope, trust, and faith in Him. Jesus teaches us not to take revenge, but to continue to suffer patiently at the hands of evil people. Achieving that type of devotion to God, is a very personal thing. So, all I can say in answer to your question is that even if an evil person hurt me or my family very badly, I would strive against my natural desire for him to be killed. I realize that my answer is not directly on point. You are really asking whether other people in our society are doing the wrong thing by killing people for their crimes. That is none of my business. I do more than enough "wrong things" to keep me busy. When I am perfect, I will turn my attention to what other people are doing. |

4 | Big deal that Jesus died when he is God? | 1 Tim 3:16 | mbyrne | 145979
Hey Luke, This is a very worthy question. The answer is all about the concept of "infinity." An infinite quantity of anything is an unlimited quantity. So, if I had an infinite number of apples, I'd have a never ending supply. I couldn't actually count how many I had. All I could say is that I'll NEVER run out of apples. That's the way it was for Jesus before He came to earth to die for our sins. He had infinite quantities of everything: glory, honor, power, authority, etc. Giving up infinite quantites of these things is impossible to understand or fully appreciate. But rest assured, going from infinite glory to a place where they drive nails through your hands and feet is a BIG sacrifice. What's really amazing about the cross, is that it demonstrates how much God loves you, Luke. GOD - the all powerful, eternal, creator of everything - came to earth and let people torture and kill Him so that He could blot out our sins and live with us forever ... in INFINITE glory. That's incredible love. On the cross, God demonstrated His reckless, all-consuming, sacrificial love for us. Put another way, would you do what Jesus did? Do you love anybody so much that you would let yourself be tortured and killed for them? Even if it was assured that you would be restored after being dead for three days? |

5 | worship in front of a wooden cross | 2 Kin 18:4 | mbyrne | 145977
Interesting question! The reason it is a hard question to answer is because it is directed outward. You ask "Is it proper for believers to ..." It would be better to ask, "Is it proper for me to fall, touch and pray in front of a wooden cross during worship?" That question cuts all the potential for judging others out of the answer. (See: Matthew 7:1-2, Luke 6:37). Answering the question only for myself ... I would find the practice distracting. By focusing on the cross, I think that my attention would be shifted away from God. In my opinion, the real lesson to be learned has nothing to do with worship, but with judging others. Just do your own thing, and strive not to judge your friends. If your friends treat you badly because of the way you worship consider Romans 14:14-16. |

6 | Why is Church full of pagan beliefs ? | Bible general Archive 2 | mbyrne | 145976
Isn't it possible that some of the pagan beliefs are not that big of a problem? Christmas trees, for example, are derived from a pagan tradition. But it doesn't matter, because we've changed their meaning. For us, they represent everlasting life - because they're evergreen. In my opinion, we have not adopted pagan beliefs and traditions. We've conquered them and replaced their meanings with God's love and truth. The really dangerous beliefs and doctrines are much more hard to spot. For example, when we set our sights on christian work instead of on God, I think that satan is having his way with us. If we are truly abandonded to God, Christ's victory will be enforced automatically and we won't be tempted, discouraged and tired out by our work. Overall, I'm arguing for a very simple thing: complete abandonment to God. He's already sought us and bought us with reckless abandon to the cross. That's our example. All the inacurate beliefs and doctrines will fall by the wayside when we dive head-first into God's will. |
