1 | Are humans 2 or 3 parts? | Bible general Archive 4 | lightzabor77 | 236470 | ||
I really, really don't know! I looked at Genesis 1-2. I suppose since we're created in God's image, we might be 3, since God is 3. On the other hand, although we reflect God in many ways that doesn't mean that we resemble Him in every way. In Genesis 2:7 it is recorded that God "formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being". That could mean people have physical bodies but also the "breath of life" meaning the soul, so people have 2 parts. There might be more that pertains to your question somewhere in the Bible, but I didn't find it. The Bible is pretty much centered on God's love for His people, but it's also a good guidebook to life. If knowing that we have soul, spirit, and body, just spirit and body, or just soul and body, is really important, God would have told somebody to put it in there. So if we find it, then we know it's important. If we don't, then we know it's not. I know I haven't answered your question exactly but I hope this helped! Have a great day! P.S. There was something I found in the Bible where Elijah gives Elisha his spirit. You should read it- 2 Kings:9-15. If “spirit” doesn’t mean something else, then going with the idea that people have 3 parts, that scenario would make sense. It would make for an interesting study, though. So the body dies and never leaves earth, the soul never dies but leaves earth to go in a new body, and the spirit…isn’t held by the body…could leave earth with the soul, but doesn’t have to leave earth? I don’t know. Although, that would explain that steamboat ghost story that I read once. Supposedly, a woman really loved her steamboat. After she died, her spirit remained with the boat and continues (to this very day) to take care of it. I figured it had to be fake, but I guess it could be real. P.S.S. If each person does have a spirit, that would be so cool! Just think- I could go to Paris without leaving my body! I wonder how long it would take to get there? But then I wonder if I would remember anything, you know, because I would have left my brain behind so I couldn’t store any memory of it. Or maybe my spirit would have memory of it temporarily, and then transfer the information to my brain so I could remember it later. But then if I couldn’t store memory, wouldn’t that mean I couldn’t see, either? That’d be boring. No wonder I’ve never done it. And what about people who are blind? Would they be able to see as spirit? Or maybe a spirit is something like a Dragon’s heart from Eragon. Well, you brought up an interesting issue thenoel2, that’s for sure! |
