1 | Balaam and Balak | Num 31:16 | kvrock | 196841 | ||
Hi Cheri, The example of Balaam must be considered by God as a powerful one, for it reaches from Numbers to the book of Revelation. The area of scripture you are looking for begins in Numbers 31:16. It refers to the cause of what we see happening in Numbers 25. Here it is: "16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD." Also, you may want to look at 2 Peter 2:14-16: "14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet." And also Revelation 2:14: " But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication." Jude 11 also touches on this. Hope this helps. Ken |

Good morning Hank, Ok, I see what happened here. I have a website called OBSERVATIONS on Google's Blogspot. When I filled out their registration form, it asked for my birth date. That template rendered the zodiacal Taurus and Boar without me ever typing it in. Then a month later, when I registered for this forum I came to the place where the StudyBibleForum asked for a profile. Instead of typing a profile all over again, I went to Google's profile, copied and pasted it in without ever noticing what they did until you pointed it out. I removed those words from my profile last night so there wouldn't be any misunderstanding. The "they" I mentioned pertains to Google. By the same token, I noticed you signed your note of inquiry simply as Hank, yet you referred to yourself at least twice in the plural, as "us" and "we". Can you please explain? I never have had anything to do with astrology. But, since you brought the subject up, astrology is the mis-use of information placed in the heavens by God himself. Joseph had a dream where he says the 12 tribes of Israel are symbolized by the Zodiac. The tribes of Israel were later instructed by God to make their camp in the form of a Zodiac. David said night after night the heavens "declare" and show forth knowledge (they teach the story of the coming of Christ). Being pictorial, it transcends all language barriers. But, like a lot of the information God has offered mankind, it has been corrupted to the point where the created "thing" is worshiped instead of the One that created it. In fact, taken to an extreme, a person can worship their Bible instead of using it as the tool God intended. A well used Bible should be full of handwritten notes in it's margin, referring scripture to scripture. It should be dog-eared, worn out, and replaced as often as needed. It is to be used and not worshiped. Take it easy Hank, we're all in this thing (life) together. If I can be of any further assistance, shoot me a note. Ken |

Hi again, Yes, I would have to agree with that ..stjohn. That's why I left 17 years ago. You asked a good question in your last inquiry, "am I a Christian". How 'bout you? Just wonderin' .... do you really have two initials before your first name ...or are supposed to read something else into that? Oh yeh, thanks for the warm welcome. |

Hi Stjohn, Yes, I am a Christian. When I filled out the registration, I typed-in my birth date. They put Taurus in there. Also, when I began the site and first filled out the registration, I did not intend it to be focused on the Bible only. However, the Bible is a collection of books. I'd have to say Ephesians is one of my most favorite books within it. However, if a person were on a desert island, and only one of the books of the Bible washed ashore, I think ACTS would be the best suited. You seem to be very observant, and good at noticing things. Had you read the first article, you would have also read this: "Please bear with me. I walk through the Bible in the same way I often walk through the woods ... very slowly, stopping often, being sure to take everything in. I love the woods. And, I love the Bible." Hope that answers everything ok. Thanks for asking. Ken |
