1 | Diff. btw receiving and being filled | Luke 11:13 | keruxib12 | 147852
Hi Ray, I would submit that you and I are "almost" saying the same thing -- my thought is that as Jesus spoke John 4:24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." The spirit (ours and His)gives birth to worship and Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. How does the Spirit (no distinction, but NASB) bear witness - through feeling, no, but through the Word which is the truth. The instruction to "be filled with the spirit" will result in our being "filled with are the psalms and hymns and spiritual songs; Ephesians 5:16. When the word of Christ richly dwells within us we teach and admonish one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs; Colossians 3:16" as you and I have written. kerux 12 |

The original question concerned the filling of the Holy Spirit and in response to that question, the Word gives us a clear understanding: "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father." (Eph. 5:18-20) is to "Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God." (Col. 3:16) |

One can look at the Apostle Paul's understanding in Ephesians 5:18-20 and then at his understanding in Colossians 3:16-17; the pattern is the same - allowing the Word of God richly dwell in us fills us with His Holy Spirit.
