1 | Evolution vs Creation | Not Specified | kamschoolgrad | 213852
Dear Members of this Forum, Help Help Help! Here is another letter to the editor a friend of ours presented to us. What is the answer to why God would create the sun on the fourth day when it is our source of energy and so much larger than the earth? Why is the bible filled with statements implying the earth does not move, it has ends, corners, pillars and foundations? Dear Editor, The Theory of Creation is as the Theory of Evolution, just a theory. What people care to believe depends on their level of intelligence. The concept of Creation comes from primitive knowledge that is found in a book written 3000 years ago while the Theory of Evolution is supported by intellectuals grounded in modern science. Evolutionism may not be totally accurate or completely provable, but it is far more credible than Creationism. Just look at Genesis 1:14-19. In it Moses, the inventor of Creationism, writes that God created the sun on the fourth day. Huh? The fourth day? In grade school we learned that the sun, being 1.299 million times larger than the earth, is the reason we have days and nights. How is it possible to have three days and three nights before the existence of a sun? Further in this creationism book (1 Chr 16:30, Ps 93:1, Ps 96:10) you will find that it says the earth is stable and does not move. What? Does not move? Grade school science taught us the earth rotates on its axis at a speed of 1040 mph and the speed at which it revolves around the sun is 62,400 miles per hour. ???The earth cannot be moved??? The source of creationism is seriously flawed as it also says the earth rests on pillars, has foundations, ends and corners. Check it out; 1 Sam 2:8, Job 9:6, Ps 104:5, Dan 4:11, 2 Sam 22:16, Job 38:4-6,13, Isa 11:12, Eze 7:2, Heb 1:10 and Rev 7:1. It is mind boggling to see how so many people commit intellectual rape believing the fairy tale story of creation. How is it possible that an elementary knowledge of our world doesn't simply cancel the primitive science of ancient times and its confounding Theory of Creation? Darlene Ramsey My boyfriend and I are asking why is the bible not specific about our majestic sphere we call earth? Why do bible authors not talk about the extinction of many of God's creatures especially dinosaurs? kamschoolgrad |

3 | Risen Saints who appeared to Many | Not Specified | kamschoolgrad | 213204
Dear Memebers of this forum, HELP HELP HELP ! A very close friend of ours has come up with another difficulty that I have no answer for regarding the risen saints that were awakened at the time Jesus died on the cross. We never new of this event. Here is his letter to us: Aloha Charles and Karen, It was nice talking to you this morning about the bible. Here is that passage you weren't aware of, Matthew 27, verses 52-53, "And the graves were open, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose. And came out of their graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many." If the bible is N O T a book of fairy tales, folklore and legends, then a reasonable assumption would be that secular evidence of some sort would be available for such a phenomenon. The Jewish and the Romans were dilligent at keeping records of births, Hanukkahs, marriages, elections, properties, deaths and many other significant events. The Jewish historian Josephus was such a keeper of records that he meticulously wrote volumes chronicling the events of that day. Strangely though, nowhere in his writings does he mention anything about previously known dead people up and about. If indeed this supernatural event were true, it would certainly have garnered the curiosity of a lot more people to say the least. Such an event would undoubtedly be passed on to many generations, yet there are no other accounts of such a miracle. Even the Apostles who began the work of spreading the good news did not mention a word about all the risen saints that appeared to many. What a witness for the new church that surely would have been. Don't you think it would have been an impressive validation and proof of the resurrection of Jesus? Don't you think it would have been the talk of the town seeing deceased loved ones resurrected and reunited with their families? Don't you think at least one Apostle would have used that event as part of his evangelism? Why is not a word of such a miraculous event mentioned at all by the other gospel writers? The answer my dear Charles and Karen is a simple one. It is folklore and fairy tale. It never happened. The problem with the whole thing about religion is how religious people insult God by claiming that He inspired writers to write such things as dead saints being raised, the sun being created on the fourth day, kill a dissenting family member if he tried to entice you away from the lord, that bastards were barred from the assembly of the lord for up to ten generations and women were unclean during their menstrual cycle. It is preposterous to support the notion that God would command the death penalty for a rebellious child, forbid disabled and handicapped people from entering the assembly of the lord, proclaim Solomon as the wisest man that ever lived while blessing him with a thousand women and having the prophet Samuel threaten David with having his wives raped in front of everyone. How is it possible that God would be so petty as to be concerned with his people cooking a goat in its mother's milk? That eating pork or shrimp or lobster is an abomination? That if a man found his bride not a virgin on their wedding night, he could have her stoned? That it was a shame for women to speak in churches? That women were to remain silent and learn from their husbands at home? That women were forbidden to teach or have authority over men? How is it possible that God would be so petty on a myriad of unimportant and insignificant practices BUT not say a word forbidding slavery, outlawing polygamy or declaring the rights of women? How is it possible that God would instead, condone and sanction polygamy, slavery, the death penalty for petty infractions and the chattel treatment of women? I don't believe, in fact I guarantee you, God had nothing to do with the foolish men who claimed to be writing the word of God. He had nothing to do with inspiring the writers of the bible, the Koran, not even Ellen G. White, Joseph Smith or Charles Russell. The evidence that comes from the bible is as clear as a bright sunny Hawaiian day. No amount of spin can change its horrendous insult to our magnificient God of the universe. Be reasonable and think seriously about the majesty of God, He is not a God of confusion. Respectfully given and friends forever, Steve Our best friend Steve has stumped us and we are desparate for a way to answer his logic. The Word tells us to go into all the world and spread the good news of salvation. How are we to explain these questions to someone who is reading the bible for the first time? We cannot deny there are many people out there who have never heard of the bible and will ask about these difficulties. What are we supposed to say to them? What is the reason there is nothing more said about the risen saints that appeared to many in the holy city? Thank you for any help you may have, kam |

Dear Wily. My confliction is the commandments were written in stone thus demonstrating the importance of them. Here are four of them that are not followed at all: Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened bread. Redeem all of your firstborn. Rest on the seventh day. Celebrate the Feast of Weeks. Here is what you worte, "The fact that the Ten Commandments were written upon stone tablets give us a clue as to their importance, compared to everything else. Everything else is not written in stone. There is no incompatibility in applying the Ten Commandments to individuals, regardless of whether they are citizens of Israel or not." You imply that we are all compatible and must adhere to all of the commandments, especially since they were written in stone. If we do not follow these commands we are transgresing the law, aren't we? Doesn't God say that if we break the smallest of these we are guilty of breaking them all? kam |

Dear Wily, Are you sure about the commandments? The commandments written in stone and identified as The Ten Commandments are found in Exodus 34:1-27. Do not worship other Gods for God whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Make no treaties with those who live in the lands the lord has given. Do not make cast idols. Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened bread. Redeem all of your firstborn. Rest on the seventh day. Celebrate the Feast of Weeks. Do not offer blood of a sacrifice with anything containing yeast. Firstfruits of your soil belong to the Lord. Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk. Here is what you worte, "The fact that the Ten Commandments were written upon stone tablets give us a clue as to their importance, compared to everything else. Everything else is not written in stone. There is no incompatibility in applying the Ten Commandments to individuals, regardless of whether they are citizens of Israel or not." Are you sure? Kam |

Dear Mr. Moran, Thank you for your answer, however we have used that answer already and the response has not been good. Here is what you answered, "All of the things mentioned in this letter were part of God's covenant with Israel. We are not bound by that covenant..." The retort is why then do Christians still preach against homosexuality? We have also been hammered by the nagging question concerning the immutability of God. If as you say "This covenant was only for a specific people, at a specific time in history. It is not binding upon us," why did Jesus say that heaven and earth must pass away before any part of God's law fails? kamschoolgrad |

To all of you on this forum, My boyfriend and I have been trying to spread the good news of salvation, but we keep getting questions we can't answer. One very close friend whom we love very much just gave us this excerpt from our local newspaper. Can anyone help us provide some convincing answers? Dear Editor, Can Christians be any more clueless about the what the bible says? Sadly shallow are those who profess to believe the bible but have no idea of its many difficulties. For example, while it says that homosexuality is an abomination, it also says the penalty is death for anyone caught practicing homosexuality; (Lev 20:13). Although we witness many so-called Christians opposing homosexuality, we don't see any of them pushing its penalty of death, do we? Eating of pork and shell fish are also abominations; (Deut 14:3-10). How about the evil of rape? God says that a virgin who is raped must marry her rapist; (Deut 22:28-29). What about the holy day? The sabbath day is a memorial of creation, sanctified and hallowed by God. The bible calls for death to anyone failing to observe the sabbath commandment, (Ex 31:15) do not engage in work or personal pleasure. Why aren't bible believers following the rape rules, boycotting Bubba Gumps and Red Lobster or correctly keeping the sabbath day? From this same set of Mosaic Laws which the Ten Commandments are a part, killing is not allowed; (Deut 5:17). Bible believers say this is a moral law applicable to all of humanity, however they disagree with God when He commands the killing of a family member who tries to entice his family away from the Lord; (Deut 13:9). How about children born to unwed mothers? Do Christians realize not only are "bastards" barred from the assembly of the Lord because of their illegitimacy, their descendants as well unto ten generations are also barred; (Deut 23:2)? Do we see any rational thinking anti-homosexual Christians applying their discrimination and hatred to bastards? Do we see any ordinary Christian promoting a holy war against a dissenting family member? Do we see any level headed Christians believing everything that God has commanded? I ask bible believers, how do you justify your cherry picking practices? If you say it is God's word and believe one part, why won't you believe all of it? How can you trust any of it when you can't trust it all? The truth is human decency and compassion are what guide us in following the universal law of love. It comes from the heart, love for all and judge not anyone. Submitted for the prevention of intellectual rape, Solomon Smith. Help help, these are some important questions that we would like some help in answering our very close friend. Thank you, kamschoolgrad |

14 | Murder vs Killing | Ex 20:1 | kamschoolgrad | 212006
Greetings, Doc, Val, John, Rolff and Jeff, My boyfriend and I have spent the last few days studying your answers. Frankly, we have been struggling to comprehend your rationale. Jeff, you said "context, context, context and then context." This is exactly what we did. We deliberately consider the context. Reading carefully the book of Deuteronomy, the true context is obvious. God is establishing standards for true prosperity. He has delivered His people from the bondage of Egypt and is setting them up as a model society. A model society for the world to witness the blessings available to those who live their lives as God has commanded. He promises them tremendous blessings if they would merely follow His commands. In Deut 12:32, He says do not add to nor diminish from any of His commands. There can be no misinterpretation of this directive. As John answered by quoting Deut 32:4, His work is perfect, For all His ways are just. Psalm 111:7-10, says that He has commanded His covenant forever. The context is obvious. God does everything right and it lasts forever. Nothing is temporary. The context cannot be misunderstood. God is eternal and does not change. Ecc 3:14, Whatever God does shall be forever; nothing can be added or taken from it. The context is an unchanging God commanding that You Shall Not Commit Murder, Deut 5:17, and then He commands the killing of a dissenting family member in Deut 13:9-10. Further, in Deut 11:32, "And you shall be careful to observe all the statutes and judgements which I set before you today." If God wanted some of His commands to become obsolete and outdated, as you seem to feel, don't you think He would not have been so adamant about them being established forever? The true meaning is the true context of what God intended. Who are we to change what God has done? Who are we to say that God commanded Do Not Murder as being forever but Kill Your Dissenting Brother as being only temporary? Doc answered that God provides the standard for our morality, commanding us as He sees fit. He has commanded us not to commit murder and we all accept it. He has commanded us to kill our dissenting brother, but here we all object, doubting that God knows best. Val answered that it is God's character, holy, pure, righteous, just and eternal, however God was only speaking to the nation of Israel, not to my family. That is hard to swallow since we are all children of God. How can you explain that God made everything perfect and just, pure and righteous, holy and eternal for the children of Israel, but the rest of His children are given different standards? If God was speaking only to the children of Israel then why did Jesus teach us Christians that heaven and earth must pass away before any part of God's law fails? The context of Deuteronomy is God was outlining the parameters for a model society where blessings would abound if all of His commands were adhered to. Rolff answered that "if we could understand God, He would not be God." How is this not totally against Christianity? If we can't understand God, how are we to understand salvation? We all presume to understand God when He says Do not commit murder, but then you claim we can't understand God when He commands us to kill our dissenting brother. Why should it be anything different then just what He says? Why is "Do Not Commit Murder" applicable to all of God's children, but "Kill Your Dissenting Brother" only applicable to the children of Israel? God has made it easy to understand, we just don't want to accept what we must do, do we? The tragedy is that if Rolff is right and we really can't understand God, then how are we to share our faith? kamschoolgrad |

15 | Murder vs Killing | Ex 20:1 | kamschoolgrad | 211874
Murder is not the question. I am sure my husband's co-worker will agree with us there are differences between killing and murder, but that is not the problem. We can unanimously agree that committing murder is always wrong but killing although sometimes wrong, is sometimes necessary and justified. The problem my boyfriend and I have trying to explain this is overcoming the cruelty of King Makua issuing an order that anyone speaking evil against the king shall be put to death. In Deut 13:10, God commands that a person who tries to sway a family member away from the Lord shall be killed. How do we explain God's justice and mercy in this situation? How do we reach out to our friends when they ask the question, why is killing a family member who has a different opinion not murder? Is killing a family member for going against God necessary and justifiable? |

My boyfriend was given this editorial at work by one of his co-workers. The question is why does God have conflicting commands? Letter to Editor of local newspaper: "Just imagine for a minute that the Hawaiian nation was given its sovereinty. King Kaipo Makua was chosen to rule his nation and within the Palace grounds was a cache of treasure that amounted to over 50 trillion dollars. Money was not an issue for King Makua. He had anything and everything at his disposal to thoroughly bless his people. It would be very easy to keep his nation prosperous. Continuing on this fairy tale trip, imagine the king establishing a bunch of laws. Among them he commands "thou shall not kill." Everyone agrees, this is a good law for it is better to be respectful of others and to cherish human life. Then a week or so after the king established well over 600 laws, statutes and commands, he issued another command that stated if anyone should speak evil against the king and his laws, that person shall be killed. Wait a minute, is he crazy? Is this real? Kill that person who speaks evil against the king? What kind of loving leader would issue a law like that? Isn't that what Sadaam, Mao, Hitler and Stalin all tried? With a seemingly unlimited budget to rule his people how could King Makua be doubtful that he could make everyone happy? Who in the world could, other than a robot or a puppet, endear to a leader like that? Was King Makua insane? Well, we all know how preposturous it would be for such a story to be true, yet this is exactly what the god of the Christian bible did. Deuteronomy 5:17, "Thou shall not kill." Deuteronomy 13:9, "but you shall surely kill him." When are the people of the real world going to realize that although some of the bible stories may be historically truthful, most of them are fairy tales that can't be taken seriously?" (end) My question is why is God contradicting Himself in Deuteronomy? How should my boyfriend explain this problem in order to share his faith? Aloha, kamschoolgrad |
