1 | IS PETER | Matt 16:18 | jorgeben | 25393
Actually, Peter (Greek, Petra) (Latin Petram) is a specific kind of stone used for the laying of the foundation of a house, upon whcih the walls are built. The corner stone (Jesus) is a special kind of stone which is set up on the corner of two walls so that the two rest on solid ground. So, the foundation stone is Peter upon which Jesus will build HIS church. Why should Jesus rename Simon (son of Jonah) "Kepha" (aramaic) stone if He is going to refer something else as a stone? |

2 | IS PETER | Matt 16:18 | jorgeben | 25391
Yes, I believe so. Peter (Greek "Petros", Latin "Petrus") was the word used for "Kepha" (aramaic), and the same Kepha rendered as "Petra" (Greek), "Petram" (Latin). So, originally the aramaic sentece may have been "You are kepha and on this "kepha" I will build my church" English did not develop the etymological derivative from Latin "Petrus" or Greek "Petros" , as opposed to other latin or romance languages such as Spanish, French, Italian, Romanian, etc. (i.e. You are "Pedro" and on this "Piedra" I will build my church (Spanish), "Pierre" - "Pierre" (French), "Pietro" - "Pietra" (Italian), etc. In other words, "Petros" (Greek), "Petrus" (Latin) as a name did not exist, but "Petram" so, the first translators had to coin a word and then they had the masculin form for "Petra" and "Petram" |
