3 | Exodus Generation Saved? | Hebrews | jatfla | 21582
I was under the impression that the generation that left Egypt and the one that went through the Red Sea and the one that wondered in the wilderness were, basically, the same "generation". Maybe that's the misconception. I see their salvation occuring at the time they obeyed God by placing the blood of a lamb on their doorposts, trusting that what God had promised about the deliverance of their first-born was true. I see this as their "and Abraham believed God and it was accredited to him as righteousness" time. That's why I said I believed the Wilderness generation was saved....if they were the same generation. Got to go back and check.
4 | Who exactly are we submiting to in Heb13 | Heb 13:17 | jatfla | 21572
A good question. My understanding is that it primarily speaks to our spiritual leaders (elders, pastor/teachers) in the areas of teaching the Scriptures accurately. If they are teaching the truth, then we are to submit to them. I remember Paul's words "Be imitators of me as I am of Christ." 1 Cor. 11:1 I had a great cross-reference for your Heb. 13:17.....1 Peter 5:2-4; that's a staggering duty for Shepherds of the flock.
5 | Exodus Generation Saved? | Hebrews | jatfla | 21570
Does anyone here consider the Exodus generation as believers? In our study of Hebrews, I am having a hard time.... I believe they were and therefore I consider most of the difficult questions in Hebrews as pertaining to our sanctification not salvation. I'm not wanting to get into a huge debate; just would like some feedback. I have a feeling I'm in the minority.
6 | Ritually unclean? | Luke 7:14 | jatfla | 18374
Thank you both for answering. Now I don't know why I assumed that being unclean was synonmous with sinning. However, now that I think about it, that's pretty dumb in light of the women needing purification monthly and after childbirth. Hmmmmm....
7 | Ritually unclean? | Luke 7:14 | jatfla | 18352
According to the Law, did touching the coffin make Jesus "unclean"?
8 | Response to Steve | Luke 3:17 | jatfla | 17246
Thank you Steve for responding, but in Luke the wheat is saved and the chaff is burned. In verse 8 John tells his listeners to "bring forth fruits in keeping with repentance"; like, let your works reveal your repentance. Then the separating of the wheat from the chaff could be similar to gold, silver, precious stones vs wood, hay and stubble that is destroyed. Oh well, I have lots more questions.
9 | Wheat, chaff/wood,precious stones? | Luke 3:17 | jatfla | 17203
The context seems to be works that accompany repentance...could this verse relate in anyway to 1 Cor. 3:12-15? The wheat is gathered, but the chaff is burned.
10 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | Rom 6:3 | jatfla | 9290
I'm really really new here, but I don't think Rom. 6:3 is referring to water baptism. I understood it to be referring to our position "in Christ". I think Paul explains this position in 1 Cor.12:13,27. What is true of Christ is true of those who are in His Body (which I believe is the Churh). I believe that our water baptism is a symbol/representation of our salvation. The one in Rom. 6 is a spiritual baptism where the Holy Spirit places us "in Christ" at the point of our redemption.
