I think that in a carefull study of 'forgiveness' you will always find it related to 'repentence' first. Forgiveness is a response, not a first act. The admonishion is that we are to be ready to forgive. Sometimes the words of Christ on the cross are quoted, 'Father, forgive them; they know not what they do' but that was a request that was more 'gracious' in character asking God to hold back immediate judgement on the true manifestation of the heart of man. If those that were crucifying, and consenting to the act gathered at the cross were 'forgiven', then Peter's words in the first few chapters of Acts have to be called into question, because he charges them with being guilty and preaches the need to repent. | ||||||
