2 | Inspiration and Authority of the Bible | Ps 119:105 | hmcpsl40 | 182006
Kevin, As a believer, and a modest student of scripture for twenty years, God, who gives wisdon to whom He chooses, has allowed me to see a greater glimpse of truth. As He did this for me, I have been a vorasious student of His Word for the last three years. What a blessing! As I studied not just the Bible, but the journey to the final book we have today, I asked the same questions. The one truth that brings confidence in the unerrant truth of scripture is God Himself. If God is in control, and I know He is, then His hand was upon men when they made these decisions. Even the ones who had their own agendas. His plan was for the world to come to repentance through His Only Begotten Son. The Sovereignty of God is proof of the truth of the Bible! Psl 71:16 "I will come and proclain your mighty acts, O Sovereign Lord." In Daniel, he is urging Nebuchadnezzer to acknowledge God; Dan 4:32"... until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to whomever He wishes." God's will cannot be thwarted by the devices of men. The Bible you and I read, and I suggest having several versions so you can compare translations, is what God wants us to read. He wants us to know what pleases God, who Jesus is, how to live like Jesus, and to be ready for His Glorious Coming! Pray for God to give you the peace that His perfect plan is being played our now in our present time. |

3 | How best to translate Ps. 45:6? | Psalm | hmcpsl40 | 182005
God's throne is a picture of His authority and judgement. In this case the Psalmist means that God's Power, Authority, and Judgement are for all time; before time and into eternity. JWs feel compelled to change the translation because of it's implications for Jesus, as it is quoted in Hebrews. Translating this in another manner, I think, minimizes these aspects of God, and His eternal sovereignty. However, because the writer of Hebrews quoted this scripture, the JWs now have a problem with Ps 45:6, and with Heb 1:5-14. The problem for JWs is that Heb says this psalm refers to the Son, although it says "Thy throne, Oh, God,..." It talks of Jesus as the Son Of God, superior to the angels. JWs try to deny the divinity of Jesus by calling Him a created being, just like the angels. Clearly, the writer of Hebrews show us the Truth about Jesus-He is God! Amen! Heardmycry.
4 | 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 | Luke 23:42 | hmcpsl40 | 181999
Hi L, In my understanding of the bible, you are talking about two different things. What happens when we die, and what happens when Christ comes again at the End. When we die, our Spirit leaves our body to be in the presence of the Lord. When Christ comes again we receive a resurrected, imperishable body. This is neccessary in order to live with Christ during the Thousand Year Reign (see Rev 20) What happens when Christ comes in Glory: In 1Cor 15:35 Paul talks about the 'Ressurection Body' v35"But some will ask, 'How are the dead raised, with what kind of body?' v42 "So it will be with the ressurection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in Glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body." This takes place at the 2nd and final coming of Christ. Whenever His coming is mentioned, it is with the trumpets and the angels, not a secret or silent coming. Secondly, What happens when we die?: Paul tells us in 2Cor 5:6 "Therefore, we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. v8: We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord." Paul again in Phi 1:21 "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose: I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far." Hope this brings you some clarity, Heardmycry |
