1 Predestination vs free will--a thought.. Bible general Archive 1 granma_ota 3601
Amen to you! Your example is extremely apt.
2 Are 'we' there, yet? Matt 16:18 granma_ota 3596
Study these verses, Acts 14:27, 1 Timothy 3:15, Ephesians 2:19-22, and 1 Peter 2:5. In Acts 14:27 it says they gathered the church together, in other words, the church is the believers. If the believers are the church then the organizations, the different faiths are none of them the church of Christ. And if only the true believers are the church, then 'No', we are not there yet. We will not be there until the coming of Christ when He brings His church to earth. And since no one but God knows the hour or day of His coming, we don't know when this will be. I am Baptist and my neighbor is Catholic - each of us are strong believers and so both are part of God's church. Your desire to witness the whole church may have to wait until His coming.
3 For debate purposes only Gen 6:4 granma_ota 3349
I have a degree in literature, but the origins of mythology are obscure. That is what made me think this might be it. In ancient times, story telling was the main way of teaching, recording history, and passing time. Mankind embellishes stories - like the game of 'Truth' played as a child. Since this happened 120 years before the flood, the stories of these children could have been told to the children of Noah's sons as part of the history of mankind and so on down the line of humanity. They were probably embellished to illustrate various morals, explain works of nature, and teach what is basically psychology. This is something else that makes me think that the 'sons of God' were fallen angels. We know that there is no other God, but to the humans at the time, fallen angels would have been gods. The children, 'mighty men of valour', would have been more like Hercules and Achilles. We know that Noah was righteous, but we also know at least one of his sons was not and we know nothing of the sons' wives or what they believed.

Just for my information, what is the Biblical backup of the daughters of men being the daughters of Cain?
5 Who were the son's of God in Job? Gen 6:4 granma_ota 3254
I took that translation from the NASB which, as I understand it, is one of the most reliable translations. And of course the "angels neither marry or are given in marriage." That is why these angels fell from grace. A spirit can procreate with a human since Jesus is the proof of that. And to say the Bible means one thing in one part and another thing in another part seems to be sacrilegious.
6 Following Moses' Laws Matt 8:4 granma_ota 3245
What verses are you referring to in Hebrews?
7 For debate purposes only Gen 6:4 granma_ota 3242
I believe they were angels because of the references to sons of God in Job 1:6, 2:1, and 38:7 and that these are the fallen angels referred to in 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 1:6-7. Especially the reference in Jude because of the passage "indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh".

Dinosaurs and fleas are questions I am saving for God.
8 Following Moses' Laws Matt 8:4 granma_ota 3231
In many places, Jesus commanded those He healed to follow the Jewish laws of offerings in regards to their healing. He emphasizes many times that we should follow the laws of Moses. Should we be doing this, even in this day? I don't know about you but I have never taken a lamb or a dove to my church as an offering. And during the woman's cycle when she is considered unclean, should she not go to church? Or after handling a dead body, should a person follow the rituals of purifying before entering the Lord's temple? The clean and unclean meats were done away with by Paul's dream, but what about the rest of the rules?
9 For debate purposes only Gen 6:4 granma_ota 3230
Purely for debate purposes, assuming 'sons of God' were angels and since this happened only 120 years before the flood so Noah's family were probably personally aware or acquainted with the offspring, could this have been the 'kernel of truth' which the Greek, Roman and Norse myths of gods were built upon?
10 Who were the son's of God in Job? Gen 6:4 granma_ota 3229
Sorry. But also reference 2 Peter 2:4, "For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment;" and Jude 1:6-7, "And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day,
7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire." These seem to be referring to the Genesis episode.
11 Who were the son's of God in Job? Gen 6:4 granma_ota 3227
What about Job 38:7? God is speaking and is talking of the creation of the world - before man - and says "When the morning stars sang together
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?" These could not have been men since God was laying the foundation of the earth.
12 Do you know people in heaven? Bible general Archive 1 granma_ota 3155
Read Matthew 22:24-32. I believe that if your loved ones died in Christ, you will be reunited with them in heaven. I also believe that we will all be family in heaven and will recognize everyone, for Jesus said that those who believed in him were his brothers and his mother. Whether you will be happy to see them, I don't know. To know that you are in the presence of God and can glorify Him will probably outweigh any thoughts of family members for at least the first thousand years.
13 Where is the message found? 1 John 1:9 granma_ota 3144
I know this has been answered by those more qualified than I am, but a sentence here has been on my heart since I read it yesterday. You said, 'I can't always pull over to stop and pray for God to forgive me.' Would you pull over and stop before making a comment to a friend sitting in the seat next to you? God is with you always and will always hear you. He is next to you, around you and in you. You can speak to Him at any time. You can ask His forgiveness at any time. He wants to have a personal relationship with you. If He has made a spectacular sunset and you are looking at it and say 'Thank you Lord for allowing me to see the beauty You have created', He will hear you. If you are making a difficult decision and aren't sure which way you should go, a quiet 'Lord, I need help making this decision.' will bring His assistance. Do not become as the Pharisee's arguing over the letter of the law and forgetting the spirit of the law which is that God loves you and knows your frailties - after all, He made you. Your acceptance of Him and allowing Him to lead your life as He sees fit is what is important to Him. He is a patient teacher and willing to forgive as long as we continually seek His will in our lives.
14 Does His blood wash away ALL our sins? 1 John 1:9 granma_ota 3015
That is a wonderful explanation. I guess mine didn't explain it fully enough.
15 Is 1 John 1:9 applicable to Christians? 1 John 1:9 granma_ota 2892
As soon as we accept Jesus into our lives as our Lord and the Son of God, Jesus' blood washes all our sins. But as humans, we sin even after having accepted Christ for we are weak. For the sins we commit as Christians, we should ask forgiveness. God is a patient teacher that slowly teaches us His way and the way He wants us to walk. His goal is to daily make us more like His Son. We do not lose the salvation that the sacrifice of His Son has entitled us by committing these sins. If you have ever had children, you know that many times you already know what they have done, but it is important that they confess their wrongs to you in order that they don't do them again and you forgive them. Our Heavenly Father is the same way. We are to confess our sins to Him in order that we learn from our mistakes and He forgives us for these sins.
