1 | What is the meaning of Matthew 11:12? | Matt 11:12 | ghaynes64 | 93404
I read the whole chapter. I think Jesus is validating the ministry of John the Baptist. John wanted to know what Jesus was going to do or to somehow give him reassurance. Then Jesus addressed the Jews and those who opposed Him. He stated flatly that John was the prophet who would announce the Messiah. John's ministry was violent, not in the military sense, but in a spiritual sense. He had challanged even Herod. And he suffered prision and worse for his efforts. Jesus did not avoid that facet of the Gospel. It was guaranteed to cause disruption in the social, religious, and political world. Violent men, the disciples, were poised to break into history with this radical message of a radical Savior. We are still at that place. Being a Christian often puts one at odds with the world around him or her. |

It looks like you have already done it. You have asked for help and information. To begin reading the Bible, I would recommend the books of Mark or John. They both contain the stories about Jesus. There are several writers that are easy to read that could give you a place to begin. Max Lucado is very good and he is readable. I would be glad to answer any questions I can.
3 | How does Ruth's story apply to us? | Bible general Archive 1 | ghaynes64 | 92883
I think there are several lessons in the story of Ruth. 1.Ruth was not a Jew and yet she was accepted into the family and the country. She completely accepted the faith and customs of her former husband's family. 2.Ruth formed a lasting and loving relationship with her mother-in-law. It seems that might help some of our families, too. 3.I guess one reason I value the story of Ruth is that she was the great grandmother of David and is listed in the geneology of Jesus. |
