2 | Can a believer lose his salvation? | Luke 8:13 | geoffc | 2629
Note that in the previous verse Jesus says "the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts lest they should believe and be saved". Jesus here says those who believe will be saved. Therefore in v13 if Jesus says they believed for awhile then obviously they were saved for awhile. We must always get the meaning of words from their context. Beware of any theology which will not allow you to read Scripture according to the rules of grammar. I was introduced to the 5 points of Calvinism TULIP very early in my christian walk but quickly found that if I held to the points then I could not read the NT in particular according to the laws of grammar. There were just too many verses where I had to say , that doesn't mean what it simply says. After awhile I realised the folly of how I was reading the Bible , particularly the New Testament. Our theology must allow us to read the Bible according to the laws of grammar.
