While the passage does have implications for today's political condition my current interest is in the metaphor of "I shall throw My shoe." It seems that the metaphor of shoe or shod feet has a wide use in scripture and I am looking for insights regarding shoes, shod feet, sandles and feet in general.

Judah is the scepteror the seat of government. (Gen. 49:10) Ephriam is to be the helment the protector of the realm. Israel's enemies will be defeated. Moab with its sea is the basin or washing pot and Edom is where the shoes will fall when the feet are washed. The casting or throwing of the shoe over Edom is a symbolic act to proclaim possession or dominion over it. Similar to the old song, "These boots are made for walking."
