1 | What did Jesus do under the earth | NT general Archive 1 | exogrn | 83043
Here are a couple verses that will help answer this. The support that after Christ paid for our sins on the cross, his soul went down in to Sheol and preached to those who were held captive there. He led those out of the old paradise (Abrahams Bosom)to heaven. This was all done before he was resurected. Also remember when he told the thief on the cross, "today you will be with me in paradise"? Ephesians 4:8-10 8 Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men." F8 9 (Now this, "He ascended"--what does it mean but that He also first F9 descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) 1 Peter 3:18 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us F21 to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited F22 in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. God Bless, hope that helps. |

2 | What was James then referring to? | Rom 4:1 | exogrn | 83033
But isn't the point of our faith in Jesus that we are saved through what he did on the cross? And if so, our faith must have value apart from works or else why would we be saved only through faith? I guess I don't understand what issue James was referring to. I mean was he trying to warn believers that there faith is dead if they don't quit there jobs and move to Africa to start a mission?
3 | Help!! Works or Grace? | Not Specified | exogrn | 83021
Help! Can someone clarify whether we are justified by works or by grace? These two scriptures seem to oppose each other. James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. |

5 | Interpret this verse. | Hos 6:2 | exogrn | 82111
In have heard this verse used to support the rapture during the 3rd day mentioned here, in conjunction with 2 Peter's verse that a day to the Lord is as 1000 years. So taking that into consideration, the 3rd day would be the third millenium since Christ. Meaning the millenium we are in now. Since the first 2,000 would be the first 2 days. I'd enjoy hearing your comments on this. |

6 | Where's the LOVE | Matt 12:34 | exogrn | 82099
Though I have not seen the other postings, I agree, and believe that this is true not only of this forum, but also the world. The accuser of the brethren is not God, it is our adversary. May we not allow our enemies to use us, to divide us through petty differences of doctrine. 2 Peter 1:3-8 add to your knowledge; Virtue. |

7 | Question not answered yet | John 12:41 | exogrn | 64827
If you are asking whether you can determine exactly who the pronouns are referring to just by their usage and/or placement, I think your guess is as good as anyone's. If we are missing the meaning of your question, please restate. Thanks
8 | Acts20:24 i Thessalonians 2:19-20: 3:8 | NT general Archive 1 | exogrn | 64817
Gal 2:16 supports that its not by works but by faith. I should have included this in my previous posting.

I think the answer to your question lies in Romans 4:4, Titus 2:11 and Titus 3:7. I believe Paul was well aware that ultimately it is God's gift of grace through our faith in Jesus that gives eternal life. He attested in Romans that we cannot earn salvation through our works. Therefore, the race he is running is not a race of works to earn eternal life, but a race of perserverance to walk worthy of his calling, to glorify God, and to bring all men to the faith. It was the very principle of earning eternal life through merely trying to follow the law via tradition that Jesus spoke against in Matthew 15:1-9. So this concurs with your statement that he and we must truly believe (have faith) in God and more specifically have faith in Christ to be the propitiation of our sins to reconcile us that we may have eternal life. Also see 1 John 2:2 and 1 John 4:10. |

12 | DO WE KNOW EACH OTHER IN HEAVEN | Bible general Archive 1 | exogrn | 64806
Look at Luke 16:24, in the story of the rich man and the beggar Lazarus, after they both died and were in Sheol, the rich man asked Abraham if he could send Lazarus (who was in Abraham's bosom)to bring him water. They had already both died and they knew each other. So I believe that this supports that we will know each other in heaven.

Thank you Ray for your follow up. You're right, I should have been more specific in my note, and I agree with you. I was trying to draw a parallel to the Matthew verse, in that when we receive the spirit of the Lord, it is our example in our walk that points to his light. Thanks. |

I heard a commentary from Chuck Smith on this passage and he did say that these would be the affects of a nuclear blast. However, no one can tell you for sure.
