1 | Wisdom vs. knowledge | Prov 1:7 | eschaton | 40240
Straightforwardly put, knowledge is the psychological retention of information while wisdom is the moral and ethical impetus to put that information to practical and beneficial use. I'm not sure that provides a simple answer to your question, but you may find comfort in the semantics. |

2 | EXPLAIN: DIFFERENCE: "GOD" FATHER" | Bible general Archive 1 | eschaton | 40233
Well, that's actually a really good question. Unfortunately, I don't know if the answer will provide the closure you are looking for. The common way of thinking about this difference in nomenenclature seems to be that simply in the translation of the quotes, the true meaning may have been muddled. Although Jesus knows he is speaking to his father, he also respects his father by calling him the name referring to WHAT he is, not WHOM he is in the quote in question. I think the dilemma is a result of translation of the actual words rather than the meaning behind them. |

3 | Did God write the NT as well as the OT? | Bible general Archive 1 | eschaton | 40229
Well, your specific inquiries as to the linguistics of the Bible are certainly warranted. I suppose, however, that we must remember that both the NT and OT are THE word of God, albeit translated through the tongue of man in various times. We are lucky to have this much existing scripture considering how much impediment to dissemination of The Word we have had in the relatively brief history of human written communication.
4 | Can satan read our mind. | Job 34:21 | eschaton | 40228
"Satan" is a fundamental if unfortunate fact of our existence, and the Bible warns us of this in Job and numerous other books. It just seems to be a necessary fact of our existence that Satan will play some part in our lives, and as Christains we may not be more succeptible to his temptations, but we will be more able to notice his interventions. As Christains this is both our burden and our strength, as the Lord gives us these powers of perception to help us better make informed moral choices in life, and to inform(not impose upon) others who are not as gifted(or burdened, if you are a pessimist) with the ability to notice Satan's frequent interventions.
5 | who is babylon rev 18 | Revelation | eschaton | 18559
Well, the obvious answer due to geography and history is Iraq and Saddam Hussein, but after rereading Revelations I had the heart-stopping fear that those references might refer to New York or the United States! It is chilling, have a look.
6 | Only 144,000 virgins in heaven? | Revelation | eschaton | 18558
I am not fit to comment on this subject, but Mormons also believe that only 1.44K are amongst the chosen (just like a floppy disk!) No matter what is written and interpreted by various people, I believe the righteous that follow God's path are ensured a place in Heaven based on numerous other passages and interpretations. Be at ease, my brother, and keep up the Good work.
7 | What's going on? | Revelation | eschaton | 18557
Well, I probably have no "right" to be here, since I was first a Catholic, second an atheist, and third an agnostic; but due to recent events I have certainly become much more spiritual, and in such a way as to not compromise my ethics in not being a hypocrite. No matter what my beliefs through the ages I have always adhered to Christian ethics if not morals, as I have comprehended the need to treat people thusly. I am not concerned with the salvation of my soul but with the salvation of the human species fromthe possible impending doom. I hope some free-thinking people that read this may be able to ease my mind in a way that is not so "high and mighty." As easily as I can discount Nostradamus, I cannot ignore what I have read in Revelations, and while using the mind that God gave me to take the word of God written through man with a grain of salt, I fear the often enigmatic words put forth in The Book of Revelations seem to be coming to fruition. I care not for my fate, but all of a sudden I worry for the fate of the world in light of the parallels between what was written 1500 years ago and what is happening in modern times on a day-to-day basis. I reread the Book of Revelations tonight, and at a few times I cried due to the verity of these ancient words. I cannot imagine what the h@#k is happening nowadays, annd I fear for all that do not know the gravity of the situation. Wel, I could go on and on about theology, ethics, history, morals, aliens, the media, the time-space continuum, etc, etc, but I would like the input of Christians or whomever else is a scholar of The Word. You may not convert me, but you may convince me and certainly inform me. If this forum does not work wel, feel free to email me at eschatoncc@yahoo.com. Thank you very much for your time. |
