1 | childs question about ghosts | 1 Sam 28:7 | ella | 18922 | ||
For several weeks I have been teaching my 5 and 7 year old kids from 1st and 2nd Samuel. We have gained many practical examples and lessons for life. I also in the past, have had several discussions with them regarding the existence of ghosts. I tell them that there are no such things as ghosts. My reasoning is this, that God would not allow a person who has died to leave their eternal state (heaven or hell)to return to earth. And that is what a ghost is presumed to be. I did clarify that there are angels and demons under God's strict control. But we don't see them and there job is not to hide in closets and scare little kids. Then we came to chapter 28 of 1st Samuel, where the medium that Saul sinfully consults (a great spingboard for discussion), conjures up the spirit of Samuel who has died. I realize that there are so many strange and isolated occurences in the Old Testament. And I don't intend to create some sort of hard and fast doctrine on the subject from one example. And I don't want to harbor on the subject with these tender little minds I've been entrusted with. In fact, most times I try to skirt around the issue. But sometimes they can be pretty direct. I simply want a little advise on how to better approach this subject with my little ones. Any advise will be appreciated, however, I'll especially appreciate the words of wisdom from those who have had the privilege to grow-up and train their own children. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my lengthy "question". Ella. |
