2 | should women be ministers and pastors? | 1 Tim 2:12 | claywchrist | 35794
Hank, It seems to me that you are disagreeing with Grace's answer. If you are, please provide us (me in particular) scriptural basis for your disagreement. I would also like to know what God says about women in the church. Thank you and God bless you Clay |

3 | Whole or Well? | Luke 17:19 | claywchrist | 35161
Cyclist, If we look at Strong's Concordance, we see that the original Greek word in Luke Ch 17 verse 19 was Sozo. This word has a variety of meanings one of which is to save a suffering one from perishing, i.e. one suffering from disease, to make well, heal, restore to health. However! The word can also mean to save one from destruction or to deliver one. HMMM The other nine were cleansed and this one was delivered from eternal damnation? Food for thought! Clay |

4 | Why did Peter deny Jesus? | Matt 26:34 | claywchrist | 34797
Steve, An excellent observation. I would like to add a couple of items. First, a comparison between myself and Peter. When Peter was with Jesus at the timw that the Romans and others came to get him, he was ready to fight and die for Him. Yet when Jesus was seperated from him, Peter denied him. I am ashamed to say that I find myself doing the same. When I am in church on Sunday or in one of my bible studies, I am ready to draw my sword and fight to the death. Yet once I walk out that door... I find myself following the ways of the world again. Just as Peter did. At the time, Peter had not become the rock that Jesus knew he would be. He was human and human tendencies pull us away from God. It so much easier to say, Woman, I don't know Him. Luke 22:57 than it is to say to my friends, I think that ribald comment isn't very Christian. On the second part, concerning Jesus' conversation with Peter. If I remember correctly, when Jesus asked do you agape me? meaning do you love me uncondtionally. Peter responded with You know I phileo you. Meaning I love you but there are conditions. As it has been explained to me, in Greek there are three levels of love. The first and lowest is eros sort of like lust, physical and without true feelings. The second is phileo which is a love of the heart but I believe it lacks the conviction of the third. Which is agape meaning unconditional and never ending love. I would lay down my life for you!!! I agree with you 100 percent on these things preparing Peter for his ministry. I find it interesting also that later, Paul in Galatians reprimanded Peter for his behavior concerning eating with Gentiles. Anyway that is nother topic. May God bless and keep you all Clay |

6 | Having problems with my faith. | Bible general Archive 1 | claywchrist | 34500
A very good response! If we look in Genesis, Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." Clearly God has given us dominion over the animals of the earth. I personally dont take that to mean we can do whatever we like... Beastiality is a sin. Torturing any living creature is wrong. However, we need to eat. Your remark about becoming a lover of Christ is absolutely right on the mark! There is nothing wrong with being an "animal lover." Christ should be first and foremost in our lives. If a choice has to made between a person dying and an animal dying... The person SHOULD take priority. God bless and keep you Clay |

7 | Tithing... | Not Specified | claywchrist | 34499
I am quite sure that this question has been asked and probably thrashed to death... However, when we tithe... 1 is it truly required of us to tithe? 2 if so, how much are we required, or does God even keep track f how much versus did you give? 3 is it acceptable to split tithes up over various charities, missions, etc? i.e. I pray to God about tithing and believe that 5000 for the year is acceptable and make a commitment to do so. From that, I give 3000 to my church, 1000 to a local Christian radio station, 500 to a mission, and 500 to something like Christian Children's Fund. PLEASE use as many biblical references as necessary when replying. Thank you May God bless and keep you Clay |

9 | How to convey God's love and approval? | John 1:1 | claywchrist | 33793
Momma, Do you pray with your children? Do you spend time reading the word of god with them? John and Proverbs are great places to start. The book of John speaks to me of God's love for us. Why would he send his son to die on the cross for us otherwise? Proverbs was Solomon at his greatest. (My opinion only.) By spending time in prayer and in the word, you can convey to your children how important it is that they have Him in their lives. You cannot make the decision for them but you can lead them to the water, offer them the bread of life. The book of John and the other Gospels for that matter will show also thatthe things Jesus taught were contrary to the teachings of the world. But we still MUST follow these teachings, regardless of what other people think. I am not an expert in the Bible, Momma, I do have a passion for Christ and hope that what I say will help. Do not conform to this world by being afraid to discipline your children when necessary. Do not be afraid to praise them when they desrve it. Nor should we be afraid to stand up for what is right. Too many Christian bow to pressure not "to offend" someone by being silent when the word and Christ tells us to stand up. Hopefully somethings I have said will help. God bless and keep you. Clay |

10 | How to ask for things we don't know | Jer 33:3 | claywchrist | 33683
Barry, Read a little further in 1 Cor 14. Verse 22 says that tongues are for unbelievers. How does it profit us to pray or speak in tongues then if we are believers. I am somewhat of a novice at bible study and by no means a scholar. Sometimes I fear that perhaps my understanding is a little naive. So I greatly appreciate any and every exchange. In Him Clay |

11 | How to ask for things we don't know | Jer 33:3 | claywchrist | 33639
Barry, An interesting question and one that I have personally wondered about as well. How do we know when God is speaking to us? How do we know His will? For me, I find the answers in one of three places. His word first and foremost. I am continuously amazed how my morning bible studies answer questions I had not even known I had!!! Has that happened to you? Sitting there reading perhaps in Luke and suddenly something (Holy Spirit) taps you on the shoulder and says, "See? This is what I meant!" As our Lord said in John 16 12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. Trust Him! The second place I find answers is in church. These answers MUST be tested using the word. 1 Thessalonians 5 20 do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. 22 Avoid every kind of evil. The third and final place is from the counsel of Godly men! Proverbs 27 17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. I do not believe that ANY wisdom comes from speaking in tongues. I have attended a Pentecostal (sp?) in my youth. A number of people "spoke in tongues" or claimed to. I felt VERY uncomfortable in that church. I believe that was the still small voice of God telling me I was in the wrong place! Also not all of us are called to do great and mighty things. That path can be the path of pride. So be careful and trust Him in everything you do. In Him Clay |

12 | What do you mean...? | Col 3:18 | claywchrist | 33464
I have but one question... What is meant by "agree to disagree"? I ask this not so much out of ignorance... well maybe a little. But to make sure I do NOT reach any incorrect conclusion. I will end here and wait your reply. In Him, Clay |

13 | Struggling with divorce question | Matt 19:9 | claywchrist | 33463
Look at our savior's words. Matthew 5:31-33 31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: 32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. 33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: It seems very clear that the ONLY reason that divorce is acceptable is in the case of adultery. However, God will forgive this sin as he does all sin... Matthew 12: 30-31 30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. 31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. This does not excuse us from sinning... nor does it give us lisence to do so. Take all your requests to God in prayer and He will show you the way to go. I have been divorced and remarried so I can relate. Your first husband divorcing you because HE wanted to be with someone else is a tragic mistake on his part. However the passage is still clear that his divorcing you cases you to be in sin. BUT... if you have taken this to Jesus in prayer and asked for forgiveness... ITS A DONE DEAL!!! Find joy and peace in that you are forgiven and that Christ died for just your situation. |

14 | Abel's sacrifice better than Cain's? | Heb 11:4 | claywchrist | 33462
Abel's sacrifice was better due to where his heart was. Read Gen 4:3-4 carefully. The wording if VERY important.
15 | Why did God have no regard for Cain? | Heb 11:4 | claywchrist | 33461
VERY good point!!! Gen 4:3 reads "...Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord." It does not say the first fruits. However Gen 4:4 reads "And Abel... brought of the firstlings..." I believe the wording here is significant. Cain's heart was evil, greedy as you say and jealous of his brother. We can not hide our hearts from God no matter how hard we try or how much we wish to do so.
